Meh phone laws when driving are absolutely stupid. Using your gps or talking to someone about directions/where to pick them up are pretty valid. Its so easy to talk on a phone and drive. I do agree that teens/inexperienced drivers using their phones to play games or whatever are worse than drunk drivers. But the rest of us are punished because of it. Imo the easy solution: if you have had a valid license for at least 5 years you cant get ticketed for using your phone while driving. But rookie drivers need to earn that trust and can still be ticketed
You are 100% wrong, and the reason these laws exist in the first place. You're not nearly as good of a driver as you think you are. It's a fact that for everybody, using the phone is a distraction. That distraction leads to mistakes and lowered reaction times. Doesn't matter who you are or think you are.

Blocking all the pro-cop people ITT so I don't have to see your dumb posts here. Bonus is that I will also see less anti-BLM topics on the front page so thanks for showing your ass.

The Golf by far. The guy we got it from imported it from Germany and his wife barely drove it anyway so even though its a 2012 it rides like a charm. I love hot hatches in general, though.

I hate the trains here. And my commute is so long, 1.5h door to door. I actually kind of really like WFH due to the pandemic haha. Are you still going into work?

if you can't do something as simple as drive and talk on the phone at the same time then you're probably someone I'm worried about as a driver regardless of a lowered reaction time or not. also im not advocating TEXTING while driving (although i dont care if you do it at a red light) just being able to look at your gps or talk to someone on the phone. driving and doing those 2 things are not difficult...like at all if you're a competent driver. i could see how much trouble it would give newbie drivers which is why i said you need to have a valid license for 5 years before being exempt from phone/driving laws. because those laws are stupid.

That's absolute garbage, sorry TC :( You literally weren't endangering anyone. Fun fact, texting at a red light once saved my life.

Worse part is, you can ABSOLUTELY support both cops and BLM. I support good cops who use proper discretion and don't abuse their post, but those are rare and I want to give them more of a chance to shine and succeed. Anyone supporting corrupt cops is actively hurting and endangering good ones.

I could legit text without looking down with the old flip phones with hard buttons to press. You know, the ones that had several letters for each number. Idk even know how I was so good at it, but I was high school age so I was very adaptable. Couldn't do that for the life of me with a modern smartphone.

Again,

you keep posting that but i dont get why. obviously it lowers your reaction times. im not denying that. the point is an experienced driver with a "lower reaction time" because they're talking on the phone is still safe

And his point is no matter how safe you claim you are, if you're actively doing something that makes you less safe as a driver, you're in the wrong.

Must not have been hitting his quota that week
I just want to say that, quotas are not a thing. A cop can literally give 0 tickets if they wanted to. But the point of tickets is to be a deterrent. To make you think twice about doing something, for fear of another ticket.

I keep my phone on that little holder thing now at all times.
Case in point. Bet you're going to be way more careful about how you use your phone now, eh?

It sucks that you got your license suspended for a cell phone ticket though. That part is way too harsh.

There's already a solution though: Bluetooth. Much less of a distraction than having to look at your phone.

Also, as long as there are other people on the road with you, how good of a driver you are doesn't matter. I can't tell you how many times people have done something stupid, or unexpected, that would have caused an accident if I didn't react right away. The fewer distractions you have, the better.

I just don't see how me changing my music by reaching up to the vent is any safer than me changing it by picking it up from the cup holder

I really couldn't tell you if it's better. I'm just saying deterrence is effective. I know ever since I got a "failure to yield for pedestrian in crosswalk" ticket a few years back (it was a trap, they had like 4 other people pulled over at that spot) I've been really careful about crosswalks lol.

Lol I got a $120 ticket once for changing music at a red light. he thought I was texting but I wasnt about to let a cop go through my phone to see that I wasnt. The cop told me they were doing a 3 day no tolerance thing where they were ticketing anyone texting while driving.

now its illegal to do anything more than touch 1 button on your phone while driving in the whole state
