Is it worth 60 dollars? Because it doesn't look like it is, but I could be wrong.

It's been as cheap as $30 on the Steam store, and that's about what I'd recommend paying for it. Good but heavily flawed game.

If you like really bad characters, writing, and storytelling in your RPGs, sure

I'm the biggest fan of this game on this board I think, so I say yes. Don't go in expecting post 16-bit era storytelling and it's fine.

It's on sale a lot on Switch, if you're not dying to play it right away just wait a bit for it to drop to half price. There's a pretty chunky prologue demo available to see if you like the feel of it, it was enough to put me off buying personally!

The people who like it tend to like it a lot, yes.

That's why I said earlier that it's the definition of a hit or miss game.

Check the very first topic when it got released if you're curious. Even there there are a bunch of people hating on it. Very few of us got all the way to the end!

It's a big miss for me. Visually incredible, but everything about the game feels like it was put through a generator. Characters are cookie cutter archetypes, and there no real "story" of note at all because it's built around you doing character stuff in any order. As such, there's also almost NO party interaction whatsoever, the characters essentially only traveling together for gameplay purposes.

It's definitely not "hip" to dislike the game, a lot of people on both sides of the jRPG aisle didn't like it, about as many as did. In fact, it primarily seems like it built to appeal to people who actively DON'T care about jRPGs.

I enjoyed it as I was playing it and got my $60 worth at the time I'd say, but now when I think back on it all I remember is the endless amount of awful dialogue and plot "twists"

Its not an especially divisive game, it was always well liked and reviewed well. There is however a small group of people who want a very specific type of narrative progression that the game was never designed to have.

The notion that the writing is bad is just silly, its doing a different kind of narrative.

I bought it for $60 and sold it for $40. If you get it when it's new it has more resale value.
