I mean, if there was a final fantasy moba they could easily just fill it with heroes and whatnot...

but rather would play with Red Mage. Or when a Fighter levels up you can diverge to Dark Knight, Paladin, Dragoon and such

I legitimately can't see any significant difference.

In a moba you make a choice and get a character with 4 skills (lol technically has 5 with the passive) what difference to that are you asking for?

The main difference is that in class based there are typically fewer classes, but people can be the same class - like World of Warcraft battlegrounds and such

So you want people to be able to chose the same character?

The other factor is being able to change class mid-game, like TF2

Or in the case of pokemon or Final Fantasy - evolutions, trades and class changes

You'd have to change a lot of how the average moba works to actually be able to meaningfully class change mid match because your build could end up worthless. Kayn from LoL is a good example. He basically gets to evolve mid match into either an assassin or a bruiser but in practice you need to know exactly which one you are planning to go before the match starts because if you take conq and build bruiser items you won't be very effective as an assassin and if you take assassin items as the bruiser form you will just die.

I suppose you could make it so when you class change all your items are refunded or something more complicated like having different versions of different items that you could switch to but idk.

that's the trick here, the classes typically are the entire build - any items you buy could instead buff the lane rather that the character. For example, if you bought a mini-white mage for your lane

There is, but it's a Switch/mobile crossplay game being developed by Tencent, which everyone's super salty about (not that people wouldn't have inevitably been upset over whatever they chose to do with a Pokemon moba, given how much everyone's built up their own personal, specific fantasy of what it ought to be like).

They at least hold a controlling interest in them, which is true for a lot of game companies. They're kind of all over the market. Outsourcing the Pokemon moba to them isn't because they have meaningful experience due to owning Riot (they picked Riot up because LoL was already successful, rather than playing any role in its success), it's because they have experience in making other F2P mobile mobas, most of which are crappy asset flip clones of each other. Riot's name wasn't anywhere in the Pokemon moba announcement, so I wouldn't expect them to have any involvement in it.

Pokemon MOBA sounds like it would be shit considering how many Pokemon exist.

Presumably, not every Pokemon will be in it (yet another reason people hoping for the game will inevitably be butthurt, since it's impossible to tick off everyone's wishlist). Pokken Tournament does just fine with a relatively small subset of Pokemon available to play, and that's what I'd expect to see there (though presumably more than Pokken had, since it's easier to give mobas larger rosters).
