I just watched that and The Godfather 2. I think The Godfather was better. It was too bad Marlon Brando's character died. I liked him.

I really liked both movies.

IMO - Godfather 2 Vito flashbacks > all of Godfather > current day Godfather 2 >>> Godfather 3.

It really wasn't. I've thought it looked boring for years, but it was actually an interesting movie. A lot of development with the main character.

The movie closely follows the book. The cool thing about the book is that you get more back story on the characters. The Don skipped over Fredo not because he was thought dumb. He thought he was a pervert for holding threesomes.

The backstories of Luca Brasi and Al Neri are interesting too.

More backstory on the characters sounds good. I haven't read the book yet. But maybe I should.

Not sure if true or just a movie or novel stereotype, but I understand that Italian men almost always have a mistress and the wives always accept it as long as they still provide and not abusive towards them.

But not a freak like way like Fredo.

In the book that's all it was. The "dumb" part was played up in the movie because they probably didn't want to get into the threesomes in 1972.

I don't recall any hint of "dumb Fredo" in the book.

People shit on 3 but I even liked that. Like I posted earlier ITT, I watch all 3 each year. I also like Triad and Yakuza flicks.

No idea why.

I enjoy it and it harms no one so I continue. Also, if you like mob flicks, get into film noir. We can't let those films just fade away.

The currently fashionable term "gaslight" comes from a film noir flick (originally a play) called Gaslight.

Each one for their era.

Vito wouldn't have made it very long in the 60's and 70's era Mafia.

Or wouldn't have wanted to play the game anymore.

Vito wasn't as cold and ruthless as Michael.

I can't blame anyone because I'm like "fuck that" whenever anyone brings up LotR or Star Wars. I don't like fantasy stuff that much. But I do like gangster settings.

I dont think its a short attention span thing at all. I stopped watching right after Michael shot that guy at the restaurant. Before that incident the only other thing that had happened in the movie was the attempted assassination of Don Corleone. So I was 1 hour and 30 minutes into the movie and there were only two moments of action. Im not the type of person who needs explosions every 5 minutes but when you watch a crime drama you expect to see a little bit more action than this. To me it felt like things were moving at a snails pace and I just wasnt invested in the plot. I usually love mob movies but this one didnt do anything for me. I guess all the hype around it ruined the experience for me because it was impossible to live up to that
