Honestly, that's fair enough. I think calling out white privilege is a very hard thing to do, because it exists and its pretty obvious that it exists but when you talk about it, try to recognize it, some people get very offended. So like you said, it can have some counter-intuitive effects of radicalizing certain people.

This was posted in a topic awhile ago but someone pointed out that you can recognize the ways that whites may benefitted from privilege at the expense of other groups without having to feel white guilt and we need more sympathetic whites to communicate this to other white people.

Ya, I think some people are forgetting that people in general are very sensitive and prone to offense and "both sides" forget it.

I understand what the intent is when people talk about "white people" and am also aware of the academic origins of"whiteness" as a term, but like...people don't care about shit like that. People are sensitive. Especially to race. I think it sucks that we can't easily talk about stuff like that without sanitizing it, but what can we do.

The annoying thing are those who talk about how phrasing it as white people being bad is offensive, but when it comes to other things (the n-word for example) they'll tell some groups to just stop being hypersensitive

Believe it or not, but white people from blue collar black grounds who are often victims of class based issues don't like being told how much white privilege they have. This message can come off extremely off putting when delivered by a minority who works a very white collar job that likely pays better than blue collar jobs.

I think the reason the center-left/intellectual elite want to explicitly talk about race is because of how dog whistles have been used to scale back and/or prevent expansions to the social safety net in the USA

i mostly agree with you except i would add that the intellectual elite exists first and foremost to stunt class consciousness.

not just on race, but religion, atheism, entertainment. Everything.

for that reason the conversation about race must always return to we need these universal programs even if we do roll them out or pilot them in the poorest communities first

Obviously it would never happen irl. I don't think you can simply collapse race problems into class problems intellectually.

Ive had anti-racist trainings delivered to the teachers at our school district. The district paid Black facilitators to lead their presentations, which were excellent, and tackled difficult issues while allowing opportunities for the teachers to reflect and unpack certain preconceptions and biases.

This Coca Cola presentation is not a good presentation. No one needs to defend it. They could have had a perfectly good anti-racism presentation, curated and delivered by Black professionals (pay them!!). What you see instead is untactful, ugly-looking slides lmao. Id be offended at higher ups wasting my time with something that looks like it was made in 5 minutes

Like all things being relative its just not worth it. Compared to things my moms Black friend and her half black daughter have gone through in a place that many would tell you isn't at all racist.... its just such small potatoes.

Some of what they've been through makes me wanna hunt down the asshokes involved and punch em in the neck.... so comparatively speaking I feel like some dimwitted lady going "you suck white people maybe don't do that" is just not emotionally compelling to me.

universal programs like free college, free healthcare for all, and ubi would solve socioeconomic issues like poverty. the core problem is socioeconomic in nature.

there is room for commentary on race in sexuality and stuff like that, which wouldnt be solved by universal programs.

but if we know the main problem is socioeconomic and if we know we NEED to have those universal programs anyway, then yes, these conversations need to get back to or revolve around class/wealth.

poverty and class conflict wont be fixed just by giving people one-time cash or having a State manage access to education and food and etc.

are you talking to me? It is a massive problem, and we need solutions that address the core reasons causing the problem. Racism has to be learned or planted via propaganda.
