I am so tired of CE. The only reason I go there is because the rest of the site is about half as active.

A few anachronisms or simplifications to serve the narrative isn't automatically bad, so long as it's a fictional work anyway.

Depends. Are we talking about a college history course, or a Disney movie?

Depends on the media.

Like, Im not going to complain if and then giant enemy crabs attack a feudal Japanese village takes liberties with the past for the sake of modern sensibilities.

But, if youre doing that Assassins Creed thing where you go out of your way to revise historical art in a museum mode, then its like...why? >_>

That was a Doctor Who plot, at least once.

This. Roger Ebert's essay on JFK makes a great case on why it's OK for a movie to be historically inaccurate as long as it's emotionally accurate. Otherwise,

Actually, CEman, this topic was made because I'm watching a documentary on Henry VIII and the Tudors and a lot of what they're saying is pretty outdated thinking. I was pondering on what sort of liberties would be okay to make if you wanted to make the story more palatable to a casual audience if you were to dramatize it.

I'd personally want my Henry VIII salacious.
