It's more of a fandom thing that Makoto is best girl. Apparently there's a fan dispute about whether the Lovers arcana is meant to be the intended canon love interest or not, so that's a thing, and I would say that by virtue of knowing each other longer and having more interactions, Ann and the PC have more scenes where you can choose to flaunt their chemistry. As for your points: * her entire character arc is breaking out of that mold, and while she's still the most sensible team member, she arguably breaks the most laws in the game next to the PC. Her spirit of rebellion goes against the goody two shoes role she's been participating in. * Everyone's an asshole to Ryuji. I love him, he's my character's best friend, but at least half of the cast is outright disrespectful to him. Yusuke beefs with him during the Madarame arc, Ann is openly disdainful of him, Morgana treats him like shit and even you as the PC can put him down at every opportunity you get. Ryuji is the game's designated butt monkey. * The social link is kinda bleh admittedly. Not my least favourite social link of the game though, and she makes an effort to grow outside of her boundaries the entire time. * So does Haru, Takemi and Sojiro. Most of the social links need max stats. * I disagree, I like how psycho her eyes are stylised as in the different portraits and generally don't mind the color, and I mean whatever. I'm not playing Persona 5 to get off to the girl characters, so it's whatever. * She wants to be a cop to effect institutional reform, which is fitting within the setting of the game. She sees an ineffective institution, and she wants to work hard to bring integrity back to the force so they actually work for the people to honour the spirit of her father. We can sit here and argue whether that's realistic, or whether that's a productive narrative or whatever, but we're talking about a game where people enter the human psyche and steal treasure to make them confess crimes. Apparently there's a fan dispute about whether the Lovers arcana is meant to be the intended canon love interest or not, so that's a thing, and I would say that by virtue of knowing each other longer and having more interactions, Ann and the PC have more scenes where you can choose to flaunt their chemistry. As for your points: * her entire character arc is breaking out of that mold, and while she's still the most sensible team member, she arguably breaks the most laws in the game next to the PC. Her spirit of rebellion goes against the goody two shoes role she's been participating in. * Everyone's an asshole to Ryuji. I love him, he's my character's best friend, but at least half of the cast is outright disrespectful to him. Yusuke beefs with him during the Madarame arc, Ann is openly disdainful of him, Morgana treats him like shit and even you as the PC can put him down at every opportunity you get. Ryuji is the game's designated butt monkey. * The social link is kinda bleh admittedly. Not my least favourite social link of the game though, and she makes an effort to grow outside of her boundaries the entire time. * So does Haru, Takemi and Sojiro. Most of the social links need max stats. * I disagree, I like how psycho her eyes are stylised as in the different portraits and generally don't mind the color, and I mean whatever. I'm not playing Persona 5 to get off to the girl characters, so it's whatever. * She wants to be a cop to effect institutional reform, which is fitting within the setting of the game. She sees an ineffective institution, and she wants to work hard to bring integrity back to the force so they actually work for the people to honour the spirit of her father. We can sit here and argue whether that's realistic, or whether that's a productive narrative or whatever, but we're talking about a game where people enter the human psyche and steal treasure to make them confess crimes. I think one character dreaming of institutional reform in their ending is fine considering that one of the main themes of the game - if not the main theme - is reformation. </quote> ...
