The pitching is definitely the problem, but you're probably struggling with RISP too, just comparing your team OBP to the # of runs scored, compared to others around the league.

The sheet has been updated with a new type of ranking: the Star Points ranking!

As you may have noticed on the schedule page, the game assigns a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd star of each game to whoever it deems did the best. I have just finished compiling a list of who has how many points, to make for another fun little race during the season! 1st star is worth 3 pts, 2nd 2, and 3rd 1. And they've been separated between pitcher and hitter (Since hitters have 1/3rd the chances of earning star points due to only starting every 3 games).

X-men vs Buccaneers
Both pitchers were on point until the 4th inning, when the X-men got a 2 run bomb and another single to take a 3-0 lead, a lead they would never relinquish. They tacked on 1 in the 6th and 1 in the 8th, while the Bucs would log their first and only run in the 8th due to an OF error. RP Wolverine had perhaps his first appearance this season without giving up a run, at the end of the game.

Hedgehogs vs Moonstars
Have a game, Miles Prower. The man has 1 hit in his first 30+ AB, well today he went 2/4 with a home run and a triple. That HR put the hogs ahead in the 3rd inning, but the Moonstars got it back on a sac fly in the 5th. Things were tight until disaster for the Moonstars in the 7th, an inning-ending DP opportunity turned into 3 runs given up when the 2nd baseman flubbed the catch to make the runners safe, followed by a 2 run hit and another hit after that. The Hedgehogs tacked on another in the 8th, and while the Moonstars made a game of it in the 9th, scoring 2 of their own, they couldn't complete the comeback.

Platypi vs Blowfish
A matchup between the two best offenses in the league certainly lived up to its expectations! 8 homers, including in in-the-park, were hit, but none were more important than the last. Both teams scored multiple times in the first, with the platypi evening it up in the 3rd and taking the lead in the 5th before the Fish took it right back. A couple more back and forths and the PLatypi were down 1 in the bottom of the 9th. The Blowfish brought in their closer for his first appearance this season to face the Platypi's best hitter Beefcake McStevens for the final out, with one man on base...AND HE DOES IT! A 2 run, walkoff homer to give the Platypi the win!

Platypi - 10
Blowfish - 9

McStevens hit THREE homers, was 5/5. There was only one strikeout between both teams the whole game.

Orange Army vs Emerald Snax
The Snax busted this one wide open from the get-go, with back to back homers from the 1st and 2nd batters of the game, and a couple more runs before 2 outs were gotten. They tacked on 2 more in the 4th, but the OA would mount a comeback, launching I believe our first instance of back-to-back-TO-BACK homers this season to cut the lead in half. They came within 1 in the 8th inning before giving those runs right back in the 9th to put the game out of reach.

Buccaneers vs Beewolves
The Beewolves were up 1-0 for the entire game, and in the 9th took advantage of a lazy outfielder to go up 3 runs...only to pull their shutout-throwing starting pitcher and immediately give up 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th. Then, in the 10th, the beewolves with 2 outs flubbed a routine catch at 2B to allow the runner to reach base, which led to another runner to reach base the next batter, which led to a WALK OFF 3 RUN HOMER! Heartbreak for the Beewolves, redemption for the Buccaneers!

Moose vs Moonstars
This was a low-scoring game with plenty of intrigue. Both teams are trying to keep their playoff hopes alive, and there was some clutch ingame performances to back that up too. The Moonstars started off early with an RBI flyout in the 1st, and then the play of the game came in the 4th, with the Moose up to bat and 2 men on base, they hit a huge ball that would have gone over had the OF not made a spectacular run-up-the-wall catch to rob the HR. Instead, the Moose only get 1 run out of that, and that ended up biting them as the Moonstars got another run that inning and no more would score for either team.

Moose - 1
Moonstars - 2

Moonstars pitcher Alisha Woodrow pitched a 4 hit, 1 run complete game with perhaps the highest K total so far this season on any team, with 8.

All runs in this one were scored via HR. The X-men got a 2 run homer in the 1st, while the snax tied it up in the 2nd on their own. Then in the 4th, the x-men got back to back 3 run and solo homers, while the snax could only manage one more homer.

Beewolves vs Platypi
This one looked to be close early on, with the Beewolves grabbing an early 1-0 lead before the Platypi took it back with a 2 run bomb in the 2nd, only for the beewolves to tie it back up. However, things fell apart when pitcher Bevis Ortiz ran out of gas early (I think he has low stamina) and had to be subbed off before even completing 4 innings. The Beewolves less than stellar bullpen proceeded to give up 5 runs the rest of the way.

Bulbasaurs vs Orange Army
The OA started off with an RBI groundout, and that would be all we'd see until a disastrous 5th inning for the Bulbasaurs. With 2 outs, the SS flubbed a grounder and allowed a run to score, and the next batter hit a 3 run homer. All of that could've been saved. The Saurs finally got on the board in the 7th but it wasn't nearly enough.

The Bulbasaurs gave up 2 run homers in the 1st and 2nd innings, but settled down after that, not giving up another run the rest of the way. Unfortunately for them, Han Solo carried a perfect game into the 7th inning and pitched 8.2 innings of 1 hit ball. Talk about a buzzsaw.

Lord Skeletor was on fi-yah this game, leading the game off with a home run and then clobbering another in the 3rd inning. The Bucs did even it up in the 1st with a sac fly, but Skeletor's aforementioned HR #2 and another OA run in the 7th provided enough cushion for the undisputed best pitcher in the league at this point (30 IP, 4 ER) Tim Spoony-Barger.

Platypi vs X-men

Both teams hit solo homers in the 1st inning, and the platypi would finally pull ahead in the 5th on an RBI single. The X-men nearly missed their chance in the 6th thanks to a ground rule double halting their runners at 2nd adn 3rd with 0 outs, and being unable to capitalize, but they managed to tie the game in the 8th. In what would be the longest game of the season so far, both pitchers went 9+ in what was arguably the worst managed game of the year as well, as both guys were past their breaking points. In the 10th, the X-men put up 3 right after the Platypi SP was pulled, and the PLatypi would miraculously answer in the exact same fashion. Finally, in the 12th, much maligned x-men closer wolverine gave up a walk off homer to Stu Berko, who had been brought off the bench earlier in the game. What a game!

Platypi - 6
X-Men - 5

Sadly, both SP got saddled with earned runs even though the relievers gave them up, but they both pitched wonderfully.

Top 2 in each division make the playoffs as a reminder, so things are quite tight! I was originally going to just have play in games to determine tiebreakers but with the very real scenario that we could have freakin 5 teams tied in one of the divisions, I have decided to make the tiebreaker Run Differential. That way highly offensive or defensive teams aren't heavily favored over each other.

Much like the X-men, the Moonstars are on the outside looking in going into this game. SP Slip Sauder responded with his best game of the season, 9 hits but only 2 runs over 8 solid innings. He did give up solo homers in the 2nd and 3rd but settled in after that. Meanwhile, the Moonstars hit back after each of those homers, but they got a 2 run homer in the 3rd instead of a solo shot, which ended up being the difference. The moonstars did have several close calls fielding-wise, including 3 instances of the ball bouncing off the pitcher and into the outfield, but the Moose were never able to capitalize.

X-men vs Emerald Snax
A crucial match between division rivals both in the hunt for a playoff spot, this turned into quite the thriller, as a match between pitching experts and defensive specialists played out how one would expect: Scoreless through TEN INNINGS. Both pitchers were great, going 7+ innings and scattering hits and inducing ground outs. Both teams attempted 3 steals and got 0. The decider though, was a big triple in the 11th inning by Snax player Black Lollive with a man on 1st that got him home, with the X-men unable to equalize in the bottom. Really intense game.

Beewolves vs X-men

The X-men, their season on the line, came out sluggish by giving up a run in each of the first two innings, and 2 more in the 6th, while only tallying 1 of their own in the 5th. The 6th however marked a drastic change in the game flow. The X-men clobbered a 3 run homer and a solo homer back to back to surge into the lead, and added another run in the 7th. The Beewolves clawed back to within 1 in the 8th, and then the 9th inning...boy that 9th inning.

The Beewolves tied the game on a 2-out hit, and then the following batter lined one to 2B, who then relayed to 1B who then inexplicably flubbed the catch to allow the go-ahead run to score! Utter disaster...until an untimely rally of the X-men's own, where with 2 outs the 7-8-9 hitters in the order (yes including the closing pitcher) all got hits and brought in the tying run!

In the 10th, the beewolves narrowly missed out on taking the lead again, hitting a ball to the deepest part of the field that would've homered anywhere else. Instead, it's a triple that they can't cash in. The X-men then with 2 outs AGAIN get a deep hit to center that brings in a runner from first to keep their playoff hopes alive! If not slim.
