Democrats can take their place as the right wing party and an actual left wing party needs to show up to give them a run for their money. wont happen in my lifetime, buuuuut >_> for the topic, Im registered as Democrat because iirc my state requires you to be registered as a party to vote in their primary, and Im more invested in Democrat primaries than republicans ones. Someone can be an independent and believe that all Democrats are satanic pedophiles or that all Republicans are a cross between KKK members and Captain Planet villains. An independent could be an open nazi or a tankie. All this says is that the respondent doesn't like either of the two major parties. That could just be for the smug reasons you often see here where people say "I don't buy into the two party system" while spending all of their time attacking one party or ideology. It doesn't mean that polarization is decreasing.
