good female character. Wanda isn't a mary sue and has several issues and problems but can still carry media without it feeling forced.

Some female characters are just going to suck because the character sucks.

Same can be said for male characters.

I can't stand Vision and I have no love for the character. I think he's lame.

I mean one has to tell a character story in 90 minutes and the other has had 4 movies and 9 TV shows.

Carol Danvers falls into a handful of Mary Sue tropes but I dont think shes any more of one than anyone else in the MCU.

Almost all the heroes in the MCU have that everybody loves them despite them being insufferable people syndrome.

As for competence, Tony Stark created the single most advanced power generator in a cave, with a box of scraps. Dr. Strange mastered magic in record time.

Carols weakness is that shes just boring as fuck. And you cant even blame that on Brie Larson as shes proven more than able to make similar characters compelling and charismatic in other movies

The thing I usually hear is that she never has to actually struggle or overcome a flaw. There's not much character development or anything.

But, to be honest, I only saw her movie once and I can't remember much of anything about it.

Same. Plus amnesia as a plot device is some weak sauce.

Captain Marvel's problem is that she's Carol Danvers, not that she's Mary Sue.

Like, man, I couldn't tolerate that woman when she was still Ms. Marvel, and I'm glad a better character got to take over that mantle. (I'm not a fan of the Inhumans in general, but I still like Kamala.)

Now we just need Danvers to go into another coma so we can maybe get a better Captain Marvel too.

I will say, Carol being in a long-term coma is easily the best writing her character has ever had.

Her effortless ability to trigger people like TC is OP as fuck. She really needed her own trilogy to gradually develop into that level of triggering.

Wanda has been as powerful if not more so than Captain Marvel and until Wanda vision almost all of her character development was off screen.

Other then them both being female and extremely powerful, they are not really similar characters.

Though calling Captain Marvel a character is being generous, she is an extremely bland trope machine that serves more as a plot device than a character.

I legitimately hope that's how Captain Marvel 2 ends, with the added bonus of being one of the bridges that brings mutants over into the MCU.

Of course, I will not deny my absolute biases in that Rogue has always been one of my favorites. :P

In the eyes of nerds, female characters have to jump through a lot of hoops to be deemed acceptable.

Either they're "useless" because they don't fight how people want or they're a mary she because they're not strong in the way people want.

Superman stories need to do one of two things:

-scale down his powers relative to his setting so that you get all the cool action without wondering why doesnt he just throw them into the sun?

-go all in on his overpowered abilities and tell wacky ass sci-fi stories that would literally be impossible with any other character.

Why DC refuses to revisit Golden Age Superman is beyond me. Superman Smashes the Klan and the three issues of low powered Superman at the beginning of New 52 were outstanding. I want a whole series of that kind of shit.

Eh she was a brainwashed super soldier who had to hunt down alien refugees while being told to be emotionless. She had to reverse all of that.

Really not that different from most MCU stories. Hell Wanda also started out by having to change allegiances and having to rethink what she believed.
