Like wouldn't it have to be pretty obvious you're counting cards?

Couldn't you just like, fake lose a handful of times or something to look more legit

In poker is pretty much the name of the game that you be aware of what cards might be left in the deck.

I forget how counting cards is supposed to be a thing in black jack.
Same principle

Yes, you do need to lose on a regular basis to disguise your card counting.

But the games are literally designed around reading people, so you have to be talented to pull that off successfully

This is why the blackjack boot has eight decks in it now.

Supposedly some casinos compromise and pay someone to be suspended, giving them a set amount of money as opposed to letting things escalate.

I mean at that point its probably mutual respect. Some person at a table managing to keep track of 5 decks worth of cards. Sheesh.

It is interesting -- even when counting cards, you still lose a fair amount. I don't know how anyone would catch on unless you're sitting there for hours and hours slowly increasing your earnings. But even that's not a surefire red flag for counting cards.

It's kind of fundamentally odd to me that you can be kicked out of a casino for being too good at the game. Like not for cheating, but for just having a very high aptitude for strategy.

I understand why but it's kind of odd still.

The casino is a privately run business in a privately-owned building. You can be asked to leave at any time, for nearly any reason.

Well of course. How would a casino make money if they just allowed people to continue winning at their expense?

They know the odds better than anyone. If someone is an outlier to those odds, then clearly we got a problem.

Like I said I get it, but its just kind of funny that you're invited on the premise of being able to win, but if you win too much they get cross.

I worked at a native owned casino for many years, the stuff they were allowed to do was wild lol. I did enjoy getting holiday pay on the day General Custer was killed

Dealers can tell if someone deviates from blackjack basic strategy in ways that look like theyre card counting. It takes a long time to make money from card counting so if someone is sitting around all day, maybe switching tables once in a while, that might arouse suspicion.

The betting patterns for a card counter are also obvious: they keep the bets small when the shoe is full of cards, and start increasing their bets when the shoe is running low.

The advantage card counting gives is so small that it's hard to try to disguise it without having your expected value of winnings plummet.

I'd also like to mention that it's not only the dealer who will keep track, surveillance can see a spec of Cheeto dust on one of your fingers in crystal clear HD. We had a few dealers transfer to surveillance during my years there and they were almost automatically approved because of their expertise.
