Margarine was federally illegal throughout all of Canada until 1948.

Butter is typically better, anyway. I'll use margarine if I'm too lazy to let some butter thaw, since it's spreadable right out of the fridge.

Margarine is what I tend to buy the most. Clover has half the saturated fat of butter and is made from buttermilk. Tastes good to me.

I generally get Blue Bonnet or Imperial brand, with the occasional Land 'O Lakes, so whichever those qualify as.

depending on her age her generation was likely bombarded with advertising and what was thought to be factual information at the time that margarine is healthier than butter because it is made from plants.

Of course now we know that fat from some plants can be just as unhealthy if not more so than butter, and fats in margarine are often altered into hydrogenated or trans fats which are worse than saturated fats, something that was demonized by nutritionists for decades

So even if theyve heard in passing that butter is actually a less unhealthy option in many cases, they might be skeptical since it goes against what they learned in school and have known most of their life to be true.

Or some people get used to and prefer the taste I imagine. The way that some people somehow exist who enjoy Miracle Whip.
