We had a movie night this weekend and the kids really liked the movie. It seemed like a super hero movie for kids, it wasnt bad and at times it was fun. Good family popcorn flick.

Wasn't top tier Disney but I thought it was good.

I am also mindful of the fact that it was made almost entirely from home, something that is not entirely unnoticeable. There are at times noticeable dips in animation quality and there is a lot of facial expression recycling that is taken from other Disney movies.

Also Fang has no cats at all and the cats themselves vanish entirely after about 45 minutes, never to be seen again(They will get a token joke about having no souls, then thats it for them). This is unforgivable.

So I'm not sure its doing particularly great.

it was pretty ok, i gave it 3.5/5 on letterboxd. the budget carried it a lot and bumped it up from pretty standard flick to a bit above average

it's fucking $30 on top of an existing Disney+ subscription. dont know why this wasnt free when Soul and Hamilton (arguably bigger releases) were

I legit thought this movie was still at least six months away, wow. And they're really doing the premium price + subscription mess they did with Mulan again? They must've been really happy with the numbers that did despite the backlash.

I hope it does bad so they'll either lower the price or just put it on D+ like it should be. They also just raised the price this month...

It's a good deal and if you don't want to pay it for it you only have to wait like 4 months. I don't think it's a big deal.

I do think it's a bit weird they released Soul day 1 on regular streaming but this one gets the $30 pricetag, is it because Soul is Pixar and this is Disney Disney? From what I looked up it seemed like Soul had the bigger budget so it's not like it was that much a matter of the more costly movie getting it

I would wager it has to do with timing. They think they can extract X from people right now and then extract Y subs for the same movie in a few months. Stuff around the holidays and summer has tended to be free, the two things they have charged "Premiere" pricing for have come out more in a down season.

I keep going back and forth about renting it for my son since I dont think I can watch moana/frozen/frozen 2 one more time without screaming so maybe Ill pick it up this weekend

Unlocked as long as you have an active Disney+ sub.

it was okay, not great

but what's frustrating is it could have been great, and is visually stunning sometimes, but suffers from pretty not-great writing (particularly when it comes to the humor of Awkwafina's character, which almost never lands)

I really liked what this movie was trying to do but I don't think it was done very well. The pacing was crazy and while none of it felt superfluous to the plot it was just...very fast and very exposition heavy. Things just happen to happen shoutouts to Awkwafina dying and then characters teleporting away to have a dramatic showdown somewhere else

I really liked the core setup with Raya, the dragon, and Raya's evil cat lady girlfriend and I think it could have been a great movie if they had trimmed the exposition and maybe some locations and characters. The characters just needed more focus and time to breathe. My fianc said it would have worked better as a series or miniseries and I don't think she's wrong.

Not worth the $30 disney+ wants for it for two people, but we saw it at a drive-in so it was $18 admission + concessions so we paid more money anyways for a better night out lol.
