No, there's no money involved. You can barter or take from a general pool.

Money is simply the universal intermediary.

if mr A fixed mr Bs cave, but mr A doesnt need anything mr B can guve Mr A an iou for later work.

money is just a universal intermediary that you can earn by doing selling goods/services then take to someone else who has something you need for goods and services even when you dont have anything to trade at the moment that Mr. C or d want.

a universal and neutral currency enhances and encourages trade.

Money makes the world go round. Its the basis of human motivation IMO. If we didn't have it we would just revert back to the trade and barter system and things would be more complex I think.

eh, what if they don't want any of your skills or any of your goods, then you need something they universally want, like money

Money will exist on global scale until automation reaches a point where most human workers are displaced and luxury goods are in surplus. At that point a societal shift will be forced. I do not think this will happen in our lifetime. I think Marx was largely right in many of his predictions, just wrong about the timescale in thinking that industrialization would be the big automated shift we needed. It's clear that the technological revolution is going to displace far more people than industrialization.

There are plenty examples of anarchist communes around the world that function on a principal of mutual aid and rely very little, if at all, on money. I've got friends involved in some in California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Hawaii. However, in this modern age, you have to be willing to go without a lot of luxuries you're probably used to if you want to commit to that life.

My bet is still on the 2030s or 2040s for the technological singularity

After that we wont have to worry about things so much. One way or another, our problems will go away.

Well, considering we're talking hypothetically about a future technological singularity which is when artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence, I think it's a reasonable thing to consider. It's not like it hasn't been explored ad nauseam in our media. And I also proposed a scenario of the exact opposite as well. We don't know how a more advanced intelligence would react towards us. My gut intuition says the most likely scenario is they actually just ignore us and pursue something deeper, kinda like in that movie Her, but we really don't know.

technology is gonna advance to a certain point where we can no longer predict what will happen in the future with any reasonable amount of certainty

the tipping point is simply going to be when someone makes a machine that is independently capable of producing a machine that is slightly more advanced than itself. All bets are off at that point and if things follow the technological trend of the last 60 years or so, then it will happen within the next few decades.

once there actually are artificial entities that have awareness and can problem solve independently, our best options are likely going to be to treat them well and convince them that well make great pets.
