Even if you disagree on highly controversial topics that most people get in their feelings about? I see people regularly resort to insults when they disagree with eachother online, but I don't think that is as common in an in-person situation. It still happens though. My grandmother is a devout catholic and my mom's boyfriend is pretty conservative so I tend to disagree with them on touchy subjects. Despite that, I have a great relationship with my grandma and my mom's boyfriend and I get along just fine. I think it's still easy to get along with people that aren't friends or family when you can find some common ground. Do you guys find it difficult to get along with people like this irl? Do you only have friends that agree with you on controversial topics?

Of course. People are more than their politics. It's only when people let politics rule them that they become impossible to get along with.

You're making a flaw here. You're assuming all people who hold homophobic views have it as a defining aspect of their character. If someone holds that belief to such an extreme degree that they are incapable of working with a person simply because they are gay then of course you aren't going to get along. However if you are going to turn around and demand potential friends agree with you 100% unconditionally on matters of homosexuality then the problem may not be the guy who doesn't really care either way and cares more about, say, overseas wars or economic policies.

It depends on the person and what particular disagreements we have. I've cut plenty of people out of my life for having abhorrent views. Mostly my dad's side of the family because it's full of racists and homophobes.

People who "don't really care either way" as you put it aren't the ones demanding gay people be classified as second-class citizens.

Well, you need to figure out what things actually matter to a person. Everybody is different. For me, for example, I value video games, censorship issues, and good business practices above all else. I could easily get along with someone who disagrees with me on, say, immigration but if someone was pro-censorship or pro-lootbox we'd have a lot harder time getting along.

But even then it's not like I have to be best friends with everyone. If I want to sit down and raid WoW with someone I don't need to make sure they align with me 100%. Just that they know their class well and, hopefully, the boss as well and we're GTG.

I can't understand it because you came at me with it completely out of nowhere when I wasn't even talking about that sort of thing in the first place and I don't even know what I said to set you off like this. It's not like I said 'yes, you should be able to swallow your pride and kiss up to the people who hate you' which seems to be what you think I said.

You were the one who turned it to homosexual rights issues and specifically getting along with people who want to see you fired for being gay. If someone wants you fired for ANY REASON of course you're not going to get along! Why the frick would you?

This is entirely on you and you alone. Until you can come up with a reasonable reason as to how my statement leads to the conclusion that you should be willing to get along with people who actively wish to destroy your job and livelihood, which is what you are saying I said, I'm not going to continue this... thing.

I can disagree with someone on taxes or gun rights and still respect that their opinion comes from a good place. I can't be friends with someone who justifies police killings, or is vehemently anti mask, or opposes gay marriage or cannabis legalization. I require cannabis to treat my medical conditions and anyone who tries to tell me what I should and shouldn't do to take care of myself can get bent

The only reason people do it on the internet is because nobody can see them. Everybody is just a bunch of letters for the most part. Unless you know them in real life, or talk to them in some other way. But most of us end up as a bunch of name on this site... It's much easier to insult someone in this way...

I don't really see most of his stuff as trolling. Maybe a little gung ho on the exercising and what not. But not really that trollish. And again, that's you assuming it's a "wink & a nod he sometimes does between trolling". But it also could just be a normal question. I would probably ask something like that, as well... Just seems like a lot of assumptions which aren't founded. And that's because you're coming at them pretty hard. And when you do that, even normal topics will seem like troll topics...
