Do you honestly?

Personally I don't see it at all. In my day the Tanker chapter of MGS2 on the og xbox was bad but still not a reason not to play it. Now it seems people go overboard with FPS elitism. Give me higher resolution any day of the week. 30fps was fine on halo 2 back in the day, and I dont see any difference now playing Apex at 60fps as far as being able to fight better in an online shooter, which is what the majorty says a higher FPS is needed for. Now many people will probably post some vid for comparison, but when your actually into your game, do you really notice something like that?

I think fluidity between frames is more important than the number of actual frames if I'm being honest.

Absolutely do. I can still play the old Halos, I think, but that's only because I played them before, and so I can readjust. If I had to play, what was it, 45fps Halo 3 for the first time, after having 60fps minimum, and generally uncapped stuff? I'd drop it within a minute.

Who's got the gif?

Oh, I've got the gif.

If you can't see it tc, it's not really a matter of enlightenment, it's just a quirk of how your brain processes things. No biggie.

30fps has like a ghosty stutter to it. It's fine if it's consistent, but you can tell the difference between something like FFX at 30fps and Jak and Daxter or Ratchet and Clank at 60fps.

At this point, I think framerate snobbery has got out of hand. Sometimes games have slowdown, and it's not a sin. I love A Robot Named Fight, but when you get enough upgrades to flood the screen with projectiles, you can slow the game to a fucking crawl. I'll probably still enjoy Age of Calamity even with the frame drops, given that it's a good enough game.

With that being said, there are genres that benefit from 60fps, and 30fps is just really ass. Final Fantasy X can get away with being 30fps because it's a slower paced game. But imagine playing a Burnout game at anything less than 60fps. Racing games suck at 30. FPS games and other genres that rely on reflexes are better off with the cleanest frame rate possible.

For the most part, a decent 30fps is acceptable. There would even be racing games or shooters that are bearable at 30, though 60fps should be the standard. And FPS snobbery has gotten so out of hand that people can't stand the thought of a game having too many particles, having maybe three seconds of slowdown because of all the crazy shit you're pulling off. But saying that, FPS does matter and 60fps should have become a standard before 4k. Given that it's a decent 30, or even somewhere in between 30 and 60, it's acceptable but not preferable depending on the genre and style of the game.

Sometimes, but my eyes usually adjust during gameplay to the speed or lack thereof so it doesn't really matter. Below 30 though is the danger-zone.

30 to 60 is pretty obvious. 60 to 120 is much much less obvious and 120 to 240 is like nearly no difference.

The human eye can't see blah blah is relevant here, but only in that if the screen refreshes faster, it also updates the frame the eye sees faster.

That being said though, 30 is honestly not nearly as bad as some ppl like to claim. I think for some games it can be headache inducing though, but not most

I find it super noticeable on youtube but if you were to ask me to take a guess on a game I probably wouldn't be able to tell.

Yes. I hate when ppl say stuff like "but 24 fps works for movies!!" coz its a completely diff medium that doesnt require you to have visual feedback and for you to be tactile! Also film and video has shutter speed which means there's natural motion blur burned into the frame based on how long the sensor or film stock is exposed for at that particular frame.

An example of a really fast shutter speed in a film that is closer to how low fps games might look would be some of the scenes in Saving Private Ryan. But they intentionally did that to make it delibrately look uncomfortable and staccato-esque to really intensify it the horrors.

Not good for a video game for the most part (unless delibrate in an artistic way?)

id say there definitely is an upper fps limit that brains can process before it just blends them together.

i did an experience recently with a coloured lightbulb and had the setting on orange and noticed that when I moved my hand in front if it itd leave an acidy trail. i asked myself why so I used a super slo mo mode on my phone camera with a rly fast shutter speed and discovered the light bulb wasnt emitting orange after all, but rather rapidly cycling between a ton of red and green!

There's even a noticeable difference between 24 and 30 fps. There's a possibility you might be watching 24 fps with motion enhancement that replicates a higher framerate.

Depends on the game.

I remember when the Kingdom Hearts HD sets were coming out, the first two sets were at 30fps like normal, but then the third set was at 60fps and I was like, "Whoa. This is crazy," at how different things looked and felt.

But if it's not something I'm familiar with, you'd have to tell me which it was.

Absolutely, 30 fps looks like it's stuttering when you're used to higher fps.

That said, 30fps can be acceptable in slow paced games if the trade-off is great visuals. Think turn based strategies or something. Anything with action in it is much more enjoyable with higher fps rates. I'd gladly sacrifice texture or shadow quality if that means you get a smooth experience.

Some games on the new consoles like Miles Morales give you option to switch between 30 or 60fps. There's definitely a big difference when you do, immediately noticeable.

Yeah, it's incredibly obvious. However, I can deal with either one.

Playing Samurai Legend Musashi with variable frame rate, you can see it shifting from near 60 when you are looking at nothing to about 10 when a few enemies get on screen.
