Quite a few of my friends got married at 19-23 and had kids then, and it made sense for that group. Now at 29-34 people are getting married and having kids that I didnt necessarily know wanted them, but also I guess that should be the default assumption.

I hate when people talk about "when you have kids" as if staying childless isn't a possibility. Makes you feel guilty that you're living your life wrong even if you know that's not the kind of life you want.

Throughout most of human history, people got married and had babies. It's not all that new >_> It hadn't really changed until recent history when couples started to go childless more often and you had marriages that obviously weren't going to be able to result in kids (although adoption, surrogacy, etc, is still on the table)

You have the early rush and then you have people who wait until they're done with school and a bit into their careers. You're a lot less likely to see people having kids at 35-40 (although the birth rate is trending older)

A lot of people have kids, even the ones who think they aren't going to do it.

There were a few pregnant girls or girls that were young mothers at my high school. I wonder if any of their kids have grown up and become young parents themselves. It would be so nuts to be a grandparent before youre even 40

That's usually what happens when people get older.

I'm personally not doing either of those things. My SO already has two kids. And I don't want to get married. And since he's been divorced twice, he probably doesn't want to marry again, either...

But my friends and family have been getting married and having kids recently...

Sure. But that doesn't change the fact that staying childless is a possibility. And they are still basically acting like some people aren't living their lives correctly...
