Good news: I'm getting a new bathtub that's bigger and 30% deeper than the old one, a proper shower pipe and shower head instead of the MacGyvered setup I installed, and new ceramic tile to replace the half-assed plastic wall covering the previous person installed. And the guy installing it is a friend of a friend, so I'm getting a fantastic deal on the labor.

Bad news: While the installer does good work, he is SLOW AS HELL. That means I'm going to be without a tub for possibly a couple weeks, maybe more. Worse, the water is off in the bathroom, so I don't have the use of the bathroom sink either, and the toilet can only be flushed by filling the tank with a bucket. The kitchen sink still has water, fortunately.

Now I could ask my roommate to use their shower, but I'd really rather not if I can avoid it. If the weather were warmer, I could connect a hose to the kitchen faucet, run it out the window, and take a shower outside, but highs are only in the 40s this week so that's out until the next weekend.

So what's the best way to keep clean without a bathtub or shower?

When I lived in Sierra Leone where indoor plumbing was a luxury, I mostly took bucket baths. You fill a bucket with water, soap yourself, and ladle water onto yourself. Idk if it's the best way, but it worked.

Baby wipes.

alternatively you could see if you could get a cheap gym membership somewhere like Planet Fitness. Unlimited showers for like 20 bucks a month until yours is good

A cloth (or one of those frilly bath loofah things). Soap. Water. Bucket will make it easier.

I don't know why you'd use baby wipes. You'd get weird residue on your skin and it would be expensive.

In the Belize jungle we relied on rainwater. Splash yourself with water to get wet and turn off. Scrub. Then quick water to rinse off.

Yeah this is like actual pragmatic advice.

Or would be, depending on where you are. We don't have accessible gym showers open here with covid. They only started allowing 10% capacity a couple weeks ago.

This is actually going a lot faster than I expected. We finished the demo today. Some of the floor joists need to be replaced due to rot, and there was a bit of mold but luckily the guy was actually prepared for that, had all the chemicals and stuff to treat the wood.

TIL: Cast iron bathtubs are insanely heavy. I think this one was around 300-400 pounds. The new tub is acrylic and fiberglass and even though it's 44% larger than the old one, it only weighs 55 pounds.
