The DM calls the store today to tell my manager that another employee who works there got offered, and accepted, a full time position with another store in the district. Full time, rather than part time, is where you get max hours and decent benefits.

I was curious about this because I have been working here for a year longer than her, and I haven't gotten any full time offers.

As it turns out, you need to send in an email with a form attached indicating you would like to be considered for full time. I never did that. I had just assumed this entire time when FT positions open up, they give them to people with more seniority, and slowly when more positions open up and your name creeps up the list, then you get calls.

No, I was wrong. I do not recall anybody telling me about this e-mail I needed to send out. I can't say for certain if my previous manager never told me, or told me and I never did it, or told me and I declined for whatever reason. I have no idea what happened.

I just feel like such a fucking moron. I could have had a full time position months ago if not longer, if I had sent out that e-mail.

I am overjoyed for my co-worker and have no ill feelings toward them at all. I'm glad they got full time because it awakened me to my own failings. Her FT is a position at a store I wouldn't have wanted anyways, but I don't know how many positions I would have taken passed me by because I wasn't doing things properly.

The only silver lining here is that my name is now in contention, as my newish manager got me set with the e-mail, so I should be person #1 they call to offer FT if a girl who has been there one year less got a position.

I am just really depressed right now and feel awful. But I have NO IDEA why I never sent this e-mail out. So, I can't say my old manager was being stupid. I could have been the stupid one. It just seems so silly. Maybe in the past I didn't want full time, but there is NO reason to not put your name out there because you can always reject offers if you get them vs never being considered.

I'm not going to do anything drastic or stupid, and I have calmed down a lot from earlier. I just feel like such a loser because a minor technicality has meant I didn't actually advance up the ladder for months, if not a year or more.

I don't know what else to say. I am trying to look on the bright side here, but it is hard to do. Ultimately, tomorrow is a new day, a better day, and I should be getting a new offer within a few weeks or months perhaps when they open up

My coworker has no obligation to tell me this stuff. My old boss has an obligation to tell me about this stuff. BUT I can't say for certain if he did and I never took action, or did and I declined, or whatever. I don't know. My old manager was about as thorough with matters as John Candy playing a detective, but I too am terrible at dotting my Ts and crossing my Is. So I can't sit here and say it is anybodies fault but my own. However, he should have kept on asking me every now and again about it, even if I declined it, because peoples situations change and your plans for the future may have changed. He may have asked me once, I said whatever I said. But he should have kept on asking me, or realizing what was going on. But without some audio of these conversations I can't say what I said back then. But what would be the point? My situation would still be the same.

I am not the assistant manager. When one of our two managers is out or on vacation, I do manage for a little extra per hour pay. Sometimes I go to other stores to manage when somebody there is out. This is called shift running. Basically like a more advances for of the entry level "permanent part time" position. Now this isn't all for nothing, since my hat is in the ring, and the DM knows I can run shifts, so I am a hot commodity, so that WILL be looked on favorably. But I could have had a better position with better benefits a long time ago if things were different.

Your jokes never make sense but ironically it's funny you try. Perhaps you need to stop with the pathetic attempt at stepping up to me. I assume you're chewy but I honestly don't know who you are nor do I care.

You bring this shit on yourself dude. I don't find these to be the most interesting topics in the world either but I generally try not to make passive aggressive comments at decent people making harmless posts, which is how yours came off. If you don't like his topics about his job you could just not say anything.

Co-worker probably assumed everyone knew, or had any number of other reasons for not saying anything. it likely never even crossed their minds to say something.

On the bright side you may get to move into a better full time position now that you've proven yourself for a longer period of time.
