Mario by leaps and bounds. I've played every single platformer and almost all of the spin-offs (just missing crap like Mario is Missing or Hotel Mario but I'm not losing sleep over those)

Next would be Sonic. Following that is Zelda, Pokemon, Tales of, and Final Fantasy in some order

If not Final Fantasy, it has to be Legend of Zelda. Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, and Assassin's Creed are close as well. EDIT: Pokemon is probably tied with Zelda.

Are we counting "spin offs" like Mario Party, Mario Kart, Mario Sports as Mario franchise? If that's the case then Mario probably takes over top spot for me

Definitely mario, but in my brain I feel like mario is more of a franchise than a series, and that games like mario kart and mario galaxy shouldn't necessarily count towards the same series...

If mario doesn't count, Kingdom Hearts easily wins, especially if we count remakes separately.

If you count Final Fantasy Legend & FF Adventure as part of the Final Fantasy series, then it would probably be that with 6 games. I have played FF, FF3, FFL, FFL2, FFL3, and FFA.

If not then it would probably be a tie between Lego, Postal, and Half-Life with 5 each. I've played Lego Marvel Super Heroes, The Lego Movie Videogame, Lego Lord of the Rings, Lego Star Wars, and Lego Indiana Jones, I've played Postal 1,2, 3, 4 and Postal Redux, and I've played Half-Life, HL 2, HL2:E1, HL2:E2, and HL2: Lost Coast

Pokemon.

Pokemon Stadium 1&2, Snap, Gale of Darkness, R/B/Y, G/S, R/S/E, FR/LG, D/P, SS, B/W, X/Y, AS, Sun, and Shield.

So 24 if i still have the ability to count properly. Reminds me i still need to pick up HG and OR at some point.

I would expect Final Fantasy to be the distant second place.

Megaman probably do to sheer volume

1-11, X1-X8, Zero 1-4, Battle Network 1-6 including alt versions, ZX, ZX Advent, Star Force 1-3 including alt versions.

So that's 42 not even counting spinoffs

Probably Final Fantasy. The original, 2, 4-10, X-2, 12, Tactics, and Mystic Quest is a dozen games. Honestly can't think of any other franchise I've ever played a dozen games in. Most never even break a half-dozen.

In theory, the closest competition I can think of would be the WWF/WWE games, but only if we count the SmackDown/SvR/2k games as part of the same series - and even then I think I only played 6 or 7 games before the SmackDown versus Raw games turned to shit (and I've never been able to stand the over-simmy/multiplayer-heavy 2k games) and I stopped playing them. Halo stopped at 7 games for me because the franchise is crap now that 343 is running it, and I've never really been into CoD or the various 2k or EA sports games that release one a year, so those are out for me as well.

With Mario and Zelda, they kind of stopped being in the running because I lost almost all interest in both the moment they went 3D, and nothing since has ever really changed my mind, so those stall out around 1995 or so. Zelda only gets 4. Mario's fuzzy as hell (depending on how you actually quantify what constitutes a "Mario" game), but even that only tops out around 10 or so for me (2 Donkey Kongs/Mario Bros/4 Super Mario Bros/Super Mario World/1-2 Mario Karts) - and I'd probably argue against lumping all of those together as a single franchise anyway.

Usually, every time I fall in love with a franchise to the point where I'd buy every release, I either stick to the main titles and don't bother with spin-offs (especially ones on different consoles), they either stop releasing them as the developer goes out of business or just starts working on other projects, or the franchise just slowly turns to shit and I stop wanting to buy their games any more.

At this point I'm not sure I'll ever get to a dozen titles in any franchise, in spite of the fact that I haven't bought a Final Fantasy title since 2006 and likely never will again.

Probably Final Fantasy. I've played every main series game (minus the online ones) and a majority of the major spin-offs and handful of the more obscure ones. There's other series I've played most the games in too, but I'm pretty sure FF has the most.

More or less this minue the more obscure ones. And maybe not the majority of spin offs if that counts games like World of FF and that theatrym or whatever (I know i bucthered that but hopefully ppl realize which game I mean)

Kinda unfair considering there are series ive played the entirety of but FF just has so many damn games. Like mgs literally only game I havent played is ghost Babel and the acid games. Which none of those are considered part of the main series.

Question jigsaw you ever play the original version of 3 that never released stateside? I found a fan translated from and played it. Easily the worst FF for me but I bought the 3d remake so I can square did get their money out of me for the game.

It's PO, it doesn't matter. And to be fair, the NSMB games are kinda lame, speaking as a pretty big Mario lover. The 3D stuff over that same time period is clearly where they were putting the real effort in. Mario Maker is excellent though

Let's see. I've played the whole of the Wild Arms series plus the obnoxious, flaming pile of shit that called itself 4, but that's six or seven games depending on how you count the first one's remake. I've played more volumes of the .hack// games, but I also tend to count those as two games with multiple chapters each. Then there are the Final Fantasy titles; I've left out a fair number of spinoff titles while also still playing more titles in all than the aforementioned series combined.

So with that in mind...

Mario: 19 unique titles, excluding Smash Bros (of which I played 3, but still not counting them).
Zelda: 14 or 15 unique titles (depending on Oracles counting), discounting remakes like Link's Awakening. Also the first Hyrule Warriors (second is waiting to be played), so I guess 15 or 16?
Final Fantasy: 21. All the base numbered games thus far (15), Tactics, Tactics Advanced, Mystic Quest, X-2, and XIII-2; also the unfortunate Dirge of Cerberus. Note that this discounts games that had been rebranded FF just so they'd sell in the US, of which I've played Adventure (Seiken Densetsu) and the Legends trilogy (SaGa). Note also that I am counting XIV's expansions as chapters of one game.

I was counting the rhythm games and cell phone games as the more obscure titles. World of Final Fantasy I would consider a more major spin-off, but I don't really have much interest in checking that one out tbh.

And yeah, just by seeing the most common answer here it's clear the series has an edge. I've played every Resident Evil and didn't even consider it a contender. I've played every Kojima produced MGS minus Peace Walker (got it lined up to play on my Vita tho) and it doesn't even scratch half of what FF has got. The only series I thought about that could potentially contend was Zelda since I've beaten every game in that series minus the Link's Awakening remake (which is in my Switch rn), but after some quick thought Final Fantasy easily has it beat still. I've also beaten every Kingdom Hearts which some could consider a FF spin-off, but I think most of us consider it its own thing at this point.

I played a ROM translation of III before the DS version came out and made some progress but it was also my least favorite at the time and I didn't get very far. Didn't beat III until the DS remake came stateside. III certainly is a lower tier FF game for me, but XIII is my least favorite of the series.

Mega man and Mario are really the only game series off the top of my head I feel competes with final fantasy on numver of entries in its mainline series. If sticking strictly to mainline megaman has it beat if you at least consider both classic and X mainline and not x a spinoff that grew just as popular. Which i do considering the core concepts of the gameplay are the same.

I did beat the rim of final fantasy 3. You didnt miss anything special. The job system was the only thing the game had going for it but I felt forces to use certian jobs at certain points so it sucked the fun out of it. Like a lot of times you could only find gear for certain jobs amd that was your hint as that what you needed to use for awhile
