These new racist voter suppression laws are a desperate attempt to hold onto power, it may work another election cycle but the party is almost over.

We will see Georgia, Texas, NC and Arizona become solidly blue and then they got nothing no matter what laws they pass.

They still had 74 million votes for Trump and the margins were very thin in many states, instead of boasting confidence people should be taking action to show opposition to blatant coup attempts like the Georgia voter law.

Even working for one election cycle would be devastating because every term Republicans are in power for causes irreversable damage to the US and the world

The 2 new parties will be the conservative Democrats (people like Obama, Biden) and the progressives (AOC, Bernie).

Edit: I think "Progressive Party" would be the best name for the new party. Straightforward and it says what it's all about.

Gerrymandering was the greatest sin we let the GOP get away with. Anytime line should ever be re determined, it should be done by either a non partisan group or an equally bi-partison group.

Now they are trying to suppress votes. I understand doing everything in your power to stop voter fraud, but suppression isn't the solution to prevent fraud.

He's saying that the state government in Georgia is overwhelmingly Republican. Meaning democrats aren't letting them do anything. "Letting them" insinuates they have the legal ability to stop it and are just choosing not to.

well thats some weak thinking from him. There are a lot of things Democrats could be doing, including running tv ads, hitting the airwaves, collaborating with GA companies to stop it, demonstrations, protests, etc. its better than going like oh well we dont run the GA house

plus they should be doing things on the federal level and judicial level too to stop this.

If what happened in GA isn't enough to convince Senate Democrats to nuke the filibuster and pass HR-1 ASAP, then I just don't think they have what it takes to stop the USA's transition to a fascist state. I'm not placing the blame at their feet, but it is entirely within their power to make this choice for us. Words are no comfort-- they need to act now or they're only prolonging an inevitable spiral into authoritarian rule.

I mean....a Democrat representative was arrested today in protest of this bill. Voter rights groups have filed multiple lawsuits in federal courts opposing it.

1) pass HR1, get rid of the filibuster if necessary

what will happen if the GOP takes the house and we have no filibuster? Is not a good argument, they will get rid of it as soon as they need to do that, McConnel is a political arsonist.

if they let all these states past the Jim Crow 2.0 bullshit theyre passing it wont even be necessary for the GOP to get rid of the filibuster anyway, they will dominate the house and senate for decades to come.

but korok, what about manchin and sinema? Everybody has a price. Sweeten the deal for those two DINOs and they will agree to do it too.

2) peaceful protest

show the people are angry. Generate TV moments. Not enough people know about this. Think March for our lives or March for womens rights or March for science type of events, but it is important to keep them peaceful and orderly, like those events. GOP agitators will try to infiltrate and smear the events, so its important to keep an eye for that.

3) pass laws in Democratic controlled states shielding voting rights.

4) buy tv ad space, radio ad space, educate, educate educate. The GOP has spent millions of dollars smearing Bidens nominees with shit ads like Gupta is Indian and scary , I dont see why the democrats cant buy ad spade to have poignant, Lincoln project-like ads about the greatest attack on voting rights since Jim Crow.

5) legal challenges

this is a last resort. By this point things already went too far, and we cant trust a legal system that gives trespassing charges to capitol insurrectors while arresting for serious charges a Georgia (black) congresswoman for knocking on a door, a legal system that gives white mass shooters Burger King whoppers but kills black dudes at traffic stops.

a combination of the 4 above (and point 5 later if it gets to that) is doing something, far better than oh well we dont control any of those legislatures followed by *maybe* point 5 later

4 is a waste of money.

Its amazing how few people on the left understand this. The goal of the DNC ought to be passing as much legislation while they have the chance with a focus toward popular progressive policy. There's no reason to go anything but scorched earth (from the republicans perspective) while they still can.

Dems act like they don't want to nuke the filibuster cause it's a thing that the GOP will use against them the next time the GOP has power. But the GOP doesn't care about playing by the rules anyway, and also, it really shows you how weak the dems are that they assume it's a given they will lose again in the near future. And they're probably right! But maybe if they actually did everything it takes to pass good legislation, people would actually get energized and the GOP would stop winning.

They should put all their effort into making sure the GOP never gains control again, not into neutering their possible future control. Like who cares, if the GOP wins it's going to be a bad time no matter what

Does it matter? America right now is a de facto oligarchy. Both sides agree they're the only ones who get power, they just fight over how much.

Also, the Green party is basically just Democrats with a really strong eco bent, that's part of why they fail to attract much more than a fringe following.
