Forcing trans women to compete with men puts trans women at a disadvantage. Forcing cis women to compete with trans women puts the cis women at a disadvantage. When there isn't a clear answer the best fit solution is the one which hurts the least number of people, which in this case would ban trans women from competing against cis women. Its a shitty solution and I don't like it but if a league consists of, say, 100 cis women and 1 trans woman then you take the option that is unfair to 1 person over the option that is unfair to 100 people. The flipside that sucks is that trans men don't face this quandary. Men's sports has pretty much always been about whoever can perform the best and if they have the chops to perform at the top then they'd get in even if they were cis women.
