The last year for things as they were, and the first year for how they are now.

What I'm asking is, where's the separating line on the timeline of the Internet between these two eras? When did the topical thing to make videos and posts about change? --- Kaljinyu ... Copied to Clipboard!

I have no idea what you're actually asking. You're creating two arbitrary eras yourself and then asking us where the split should be? And your entire assessment of Internet eras is based on a limited selection of YouTube content? Am I understanding any of this correctly?

Arbitrary? Do you not see this too? No, I don't. My YouTube has never recommended me Smash, Sonic, or shitpost videos. You do realize that what you see is algorithmically catered to you, right? We don't all see the exact same Internet. This is why your evaluation comes across as arbitrary. It's not based on actual data, but your own subjective view. ... Copied to Clipboard!

More likely is that we're a pattern recognizing species to the point where we tend to see patterns even when there aren't actually any and I think that's what you're doing here. If you can objectively prove this shift in trend with data, go for it, but as it stands it seems like you're constructing a false narrative in your head. ... Copied to Clipboard!

It also has nothing to do with your OP. My opening post is about the shift between the way things used to be and the way things are now. That video shows the shifts from the way things used to be, to the way they are now. So I guess it's a question of where on that timeline things start to look more like the way they are now, and less like the way things used to be. --- Kaljinyu ... Copied to Clipboard!

There was a significant schism in around 2011 between pre-mobile communities and post-mobile communities. In all honesty, the fad probably started around 2009 or so. Schisms like this do not appear instantly, but things like the rise of Facebook and Reddit directly correlate to what we are seeing today. Around the time you also see the rise of digital influencing. You can do something like compare pre-social media era digital influencers to post-social media era digital influencers and see significant differences in style and who they are marketing towards.
I have no idea what your OP is about, I am replying to your title. My youtube recommendations are 100% in line with what I want, but I don't watch things I'm not interested in and I heavily use them to find interesting content. I also don't like meme culture and have never invested any energy into it. --- You're a regular Jack Kerouac https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS3l95GkcWA ... Copied to Clipboard!

Youtube trends are largely about how theyre currently paying out content creators. Such as when they changed as being paid per view to being paid per time watched...video times had more filler.

I remember religious debates being extremely popular 10-15 years ago. I have never seen a video about Sonic or Smash. The change was probably the adpocalypse and introduction of the deep-learning dipshit algorithm that now runs the site.
