Powers: Professor X or Magneto?

Professor X has near unlimited ability of telepathy, even controlling people; but Magneto has a near indefinite power over metallic matter. Neither choice is poor, yet both very different. Two of the most powerful people in the Marvel universe, pick your poison

Magneto being a veritable god of magnetism is kinda game-breaking. The only logical reason he should ever lose is that he forgets he can kill someone just by blinking.

The whole freezing peoples consciousness thing Xavier did in one of the movies once and then never again for some reason seems pretty busted too.

Magneto is really powerful, no doubt, but Xavier's powers have more applications that don't involve murdering people.

Mags. I've always thought his powers were the best for real world applications.

Think about it like this: open your own construction company, and do all the work yourself. You could assemble a full house in a day. You could also he a sheet metal specialist, weapons manufacturer, black smith, etc.. plus, theres enough metal involved in most jobs you could still make any sort of job easy AF. And what's anyone going to do to take me and experiment on me? Mags can sink a continent; I'm sure I'll he safe.

TBF so does Magneto he just ends up not using it for that stuff.

I mean like shit dude could have solved the energy crisis in Texas after the blizzard in a matter of minutes.

A power you cant ever use. Theres no way any user here could have those powers and not eventually turn into Kilgrave from Jessica Jones.

Magneto. X's power is so much more fucked up than Magneto's. Most uses of X's power are a huge invasion of a person's autonomy and privacy.

As a kid I thought profesor x exchanged the use of his legs for powers? As in the more telepathy he developed the more he lost use of his legs.

But now I'm learning there was a time where he could walk and use his magic powers?

I'm pretty sure it's the Ultimate universe's Mr. Sinister and not Logan.

iirc there have been points where magneto could create wormholes and I think he managed to manipulate a magnetar at one point. Probably not canon though. Definitely Magneto even if it is just theoretical.

90s comics and cartoons made the powers as his source of not being able to walk. The recent movies suggested it was a bullet. But then it wasnt the bullet. It was the powers, sort of. I dont know.

You gotta love territorial pissing between writers. Like, did She-Hulk sleep with Juggernaut and did Squirrel Girl defeat the real Dr. Doom?

Prof X powers and ability to walk are not really supposed to be tied together. He had his legs crushed by an alien named Lucifer before forming the X-men, but eventually after being infected by the Brood and forced to get a clone body, he was able to walk again. However, they gave some psycho-symptomatic bs excuse to randomly have him in wheelchairs or re-learning to walk. It was also an excuse to keep him distracted by leg pains because a fully competent Prof X would be too overpowered for all their missions. Eventually his legs were shattered again after saving Muir Island from the Shadow King.

Current comics he has no problem walking since they have infinite clone bodies available on Krakoa, but basically all threats have some kind of psi-shields anyway.

I think Xavier's powers are just too ethically screwed up. Nobody would ever be able to lie to you again, this includes white lies. You'd know exactly how everyone thought of you... Which could absolutely unravel any (and if you're unlucky; every) relationship you ever have. Then there's the temptation to just make people do anything you want. All it'd take is one moment of frustration, insecurity, impatience or rage to violate someone in a way that'll not only stain your soul forever but turn any dynamic you might have with that person going forward into a complete joke because you'd have already demeaned that entire relationship.

Magneto's powers are, in a sense, less powerful. Xavier's could make you a veritable God and nobody would ever be the wiser whereas Magneto's would have to resort to violence and oppression to get a similar result. That said I think taking Magneto's power is the smart choice... you could lead a relatively normal (but very easy, productive and luxurious) life without ever having to harm someone (or yourself) unless they give you no other choice.

Yes. Also no. Also yes. Also no. Why don't we go ask Reed Richards from civil war who is pro reg and anti reg I'm sure he knows the answer.

You say that like it's an inherently bad thing.

I mean, just going round an implanting Bill and Ted's mantra of Be Excellent To Each other may fuck with people's free will, but it would also make the world a better place.
