I'm not a reader. I like horror games and horror movies but I never really found books scary. IS THAT WRONG? I only read creepypastas and stepehen king

I haven't read a horror book in ages tbh, but speaking of Dathan Auerbach I did read his stories on reddit which was turned into the Penpal novel so I guess that counts a little!

Just keep trying, horror works different for everyone.

Yeah, Bad Man is super creepy so far and feels like more of a novel than Penpal did, but Penpal was definitely scarier.

Nothing this year so far. Last year I read...

The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher, pretty good stuff and genuinely scary though it doesnt quite stick the landing

North American Lake Monsters by Nathan Balingrud. Super bleak and depressing southern gothic short stories. Wasnt a good idea to read during the pandemic

Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay. A really great book that kept me going through constant twists and turns throughout the whole thing. The ending was one of the scariest things in any horror novel Ive read, its like experiencing a car crash in slow motion

one of the Moving In books by Ron Ripley. Absolutely terrible but funny in how bad it was. I have all the sequels on audiobook but I havent been in the mood, maybe next halloween

Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. The closest thing Ive ever seen to a b movie in book form. Utter schlock, but kind of fun

attempted to read Ghost Story by Peter Straub, committed to about halfway through and dropped it. Its very Stephen king-y, and gets increasingly so as the book proceeds. At one point the book revealed the only mystery I was interested in and I got bored and ended up dropping it after

you can probably tell I read more genre fiction than I play video games these days lol

I pray god will curse the writer, as the writer has cursed the world with this beautiful, stupendous creation, terrible in its simplicity, irresistible in truth

These are the two of those I've finished and I agree 100% on all of that. Twisted Ones also had best doggo. I've tried Ghost Story more times than I can count and can never finish it.

Yeah, I've read all the Mercedes Trilogy. I think the first was my favourite of them.

Nice! Definitely the second is my most favorite, but they're all good.

Reading through a Lovecraft collection, read The Colour out of Space this afternoon. Also reading Clark Ashton Smith stories, a mix of horror and fantasy.

Slowly getting through Cyclonopedia: Complicity with Anonymous Materials by Reza Negarestani. It's horror/sci-fi/philosophy. A book about the Middle East and oil being some kind of demonic substance.

I liked the first two, particularly the second, but thought the third was awful.

I'm reading this:

So, crazy fucking story. When I was in high school I bought a copy of the Necronomicon because it seemed interesting. Eventually I started thinking/"feeling" some bad juju in my house (probably fueled by clinical psychosis) and thought that book was responsible, because of course. So I started burning it in my backyard and while I was holding it a pic of my mom and I fell out.

I don't know if my crazy ass stuck that picture in as a book mark or a wormhole opened up between my dresser and the book, all I know is it was weird af and I won't allow that devil shit in my house.

I paid about $40 for mine, but Amazon has it for cheaper, I think. It's a really enjoyable spooky book.

Lmao that would be enough to freak me out, for sure. You definitely feel like you're stepping into some other world when you read Lovecraft.
