Played on PC on Heroic difficulty. My only other Halo game was 4 when I was younger.

So first of all, so much of this was, well, a zombie game. I vaguely knew of the Flood but I never knew what it looked like and didn't realize it was parasite/borg. I guess you only first encounter them on mission 6 out of 10, but levels from that point on are a LOT more demanding, and I really feel like that was 3/4ths of my playtime. It just wasn't the direction I expected. Honestly I liked the early part better, when there's green and stuff. After halfway, all the levels look the same, steel hallways of varying lighting.

I didn't expect such a sudden cliffhanger either. Master Chief Collection makes it more jarring by not having a credits sequence either. It doesn't directly set up for a sequel as far as I could tell.

My understanding is people like Halo 2 a lot better.

CE and 3 are the best Halo games.

The flood parts are consistently the worst parts of the first 3 halo games. Then they never appeared again in the franchise after halo 3 because people hated them so much lol

Yeah the first half is better than the second (although I still love Two Betrayals). I do like the sudden twist but it's a shame it peaks a bit early. The Library is a drag.

I prefer Halo CE's campaign to 2 since 2 is a lot more linear. But there's nothing that drags like the Library. The plot is a lot better. If you know nothing about that game either it also has some surprises in store.

To add on, Halo has been kinda mythologized on the internet. Not so much nowadays, but when I was growing up I had a lot of friends for which Halo was THE SHIT. And Reach was THE game of choice for goofing off in local multiplayer.

This game didn't quite have the self-important atmosphere that I guess I was expecting. Just a future space war game.

Keep in mind what the competition was back then and that most people had a PS2. Halo was the gold standard for console shooters for that entire generation. Stuff like The Silent Cartographer and Assault on the Control Room just weren't really a thing you could do on the PS2. Then you had multiplayer that could support up to 16 player LAN with vehicles and the whole shebang.

The atmosphere and the music helped a lot with that epic feeling too. That wasn't really that common back then for shooters.

I honestly just came in to see if you would acknowledge this. They obviously ran short on money or something because they just start reusing the same hallways/rooms over and over again. The swarms hardly even switch up at times and it feels like you're just having a tedious form of deja vu.

1st half is some my favorites in the Halo franchise tho

halo is one of those franchises where people say it has the best games ever, and then when you play the super hyped games it turns out like half the levels suck

TBH Halo's campaign has aged pretty well but I end up replaying only most of the earlier missions.

Hmm I'll have to see what people say about it. I'm slightly skeptical of ALL dialogue being voiced, sometimes I tend to skip through written text
