put in your username, it sends you a code or you put in one from your authenticator, and you log in

why bother with the password in the first place.

i guess if you log in and off a lot, it might be an issue. but i mean. fuck those people.

The whole point is two factors: password (something you know) and code (something you own eg your phone)

That's not even 2FA, and you're right. Almost everyone has a smart device with some kind of security already protecting it (PIN, pattern, or biometric), so using an authenticator app is all anyone needs. I already use Microsoft's authenticator for both accounts I have with them and should add Google's authenticator to the mix.
