Would current big-time schools and also schools in big market areas benefit most? Would tuition increase as a result of this?

Also I assume only some sports would be paid? Football and basketball for sure, possibly others like baseball and hockey, but would the bowling or rowing team get paid?

Since women's sports will be paid less, it'll violate Title 9.

Better to not entertain the idea.

I am also curious on what the end goal is here, I haven't researched much about it though.

I can't imagine schools having to pay athletes in sports that don't generate any revenue. I bet only D1 football and some basketball programs are the only ones that actually turn a profit. No way D2 schools are making money on football.

Title 9 I am sure also complicates things, I highly doubt any women's sports make money. Will they also have to get paid though?

I don't see why schools themselves would pay athletes. I think they loosened the restrictions on sponsorships and endorsements which is fine.

They would probably negotiate a pay structure that was almost entirely profit sharing to avoid that potential hiccup.

do they have to pass their college classes to be able to play on the team? if not then that should be payment enough.

Endorsements

this.

my impression was people wanting to be paid for using their likeness/image and stuff.

If the discussion turned to like salaries that would be weird but I was under the impression people just wanted to undue the ruling athletes couldnt be paid/sponsored.

The NCAA shouldn't pay athletes, but they absolutely need to allow star athletes to profit off of their own image via endorsements.

Probably similar to how NCAA coaches get paid; it's not rocket science.

this is how the NCAA washes their hands of the conversation of paying athletes.

let them sell their image and likeness without the use of teams and logos.

because if they start trying to pay these student athletes a salary they would have to pay every female and male of any sport the same amount.

that way they cant be blamed for any kind of wage gap.

It's only fair. Colleges can use the students to make so much money but if the kid signs an autograph for 5 bucks they can get kicked out.

Remember when Shabazz Napier was talking about how hungry he was while carrying Uconn to the tourney? NCAA is shit

i mean really the answer is "stop making people who came to your university to not be students pretend that they're students"

and the unfortunate, probably unacceptable truth is that it's only boys who go to college to play sports and not be students. graduation rates of women's college basketball players are nearly 90 percent; for men's teams it's closer to 9 percent.

i don't really see how anyone accepts the idea of making men's basketball and football paid, non-student work while continuing to treat women's college athletics as actual student athletes, but the truth is that is exactly what they are now.
