Dogs can be trained any way you like. Some breeds are smart enough to have actual jobs.

Also, if you think kids can be "trained out of" wanting your attention, you probably shouldn't ever have kids.

The only problems I have with dog owners are with those who don't treat their dogs properly, don't train their dogs properly, and don't clean up after their dogs. When they actually do all of those things, I see no problem whatsoever with them loving their dogs as much as they want.

No idea, but I know he was a transfer from a different rescue shelter, and that he had mange when they found him initially. He's all good now, though. Vaccinated and everything.

People have been loving dogs since early written works. There is the famous Argos, who was Oddyseus dog, who waited for his master to return and Oddyseus who shed a tear for his dog in the Oddysey. I also recall that the Romans had lap dogs as well.

I give the other users of this board enough credit that they can distinguish fact from opinion. Though, the statement following it that dogs offer more to society than any other house pet is just true.

Drug-sniffing dogs, seeing-eye dogs, K9 police units, etc. are pretty significant

The fact that dogs can be trained to complete specialized tasks is interesting, but it does not matter in 99% of cases. There are more dogs that will bite you randomly than will help you. Another strange things is how offended humans get on behalf of dogs. Like dogs don't care if humans don't like them. There's not a panel of dogs that are worried about microaggressions towards dogs and the fact that some humans don't pat them on the head when they approach them in the street. They're dogs. It's humans that tie their identity to their love of their dog and/or dogs in general that get offended.

Don't get me wrong, I understand humans that get mad when someone abuses dogs. I volunteered at the safe humane 3 summers in a row. 1 because I had to, 2 times because I like animals, despite getting bit a few times.



But I also understand why they wouldn't appeal to other people, and it's always puzzled me why it's more socially acceptable to say "I don't like humans" or "I don't like kids" than "I don't like dogs".

Liking or disliking dogs(or anything really) is not a substitute for a personality. Dogs are not your identity.

Like if you bring up cats they'll be like "oh my god, fuck cats, I hate cats! Let em all die." Or something to that effect. I have lost count of how many times I have encountered this IRL.

Yeah I've noticed this too, always baffled me until I read a thing about how dog lovers have a very narrow idea of what love is and feel dejected if it isn't met (there's a term for this but I forget) and it all clicked.
It explains why so many of them seem to feel offended by the mere existence of cats.

We had chickens growing up and I did befriend one with a gimped leg as a little kid. Little chick got himself in tight with the family and cats and dog and stayed alive as a pet and no one was about to eat him even as his unborn brethren were devoured from the egg.

Cats and dogs earned their place like that chicken. Chickens in general didnt play their cards right.
