Also Acer: *doesn't include the required SATA connector soldered to the motherboard, thus rendering the other two parts useless*

wtf

Yeah

Not sure if this link is going to fail for you but I was looking at this laptop this morning on Amazon.ca

https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-A515-44-R93G-Processor-Graphics-Fingerprint/dp/B08H2H2182/

It's $487 CAD (about $387 USD) which is a fucking stupid good price for up here even though it only has 4 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD.

But if you look at the reviews they straight up mention the SATA connector is missing even though Acer still included the caddy/ribbon for installing a secondary 2.5" drive.

And this Youtube video (in Spanish) confirms it, with the guy even showing off the parts and then saying "But you can't install it!" lmao

You can't buy the connector separately?

There's literally no chance in hell I'm microsoldering 12 individual pins to a motherboard in a <$500 laptop lol

I almost bought this same exact model last Christmas but balked when I researched the form factor and components, including this little tiny tidbit here.

Bleurgh. Especially at the latter half of that.

Was expecting a shit CPU too but the CPU is actually fairly decent - not incredible by any means, but certianly decent.

Yeah I don't understand what their logic is here. The only thing I can think of is that it was a manufacturing fuck-up and they have no real way of dealing with it so they're just saying "meh". Can't even say it was to save money seeing as they still included the other proper parts...

I can personally attest to the 515-55 series comes with the connector installed.

I got a good kick out of "microsoldering". That's a made up word. It's just soldering lol

Sounds like the product design people got it mixed up. Not surprising for a low end laptop.

Then clearly they fudged up during production. I'm sure if you contact them with the serial number and whatnot they'll offer to install it for free. They absolutely have to.

I didn't buy it, that's pretty much what stopped me. People in the reviews have said Acer told them no

Really too much effort for a laptop with 4 GB of RAM soldered that maxes out at 20 GB. At least with something like the Inspiron 5000 Dell is still including two RAM slots.
