The combat was basically polished to a mirror shine. The fundamental problem is that the game was only half done, and to release it they just copied the levels again for Dante.

You're not wrong. Its combat has so much good stuff going for it. Somehow they managed to make Nero extremely fun to play without stealing anything fundamental from Dante.

The backtracking didn't bother me as much, though, since it was present in the other entries in the series, too. It was more noticeable in 4, though.

Dante's combat itself is very good, but all the enemies are designed to be attacked with Nero's Devilbringer and so fighting them with Dante is really annoying.

Also an unfortunate side effect of a rushed release. It's such a shame, too. The actual flow of combat is just perfect.

I actually really liked the concept of the devil bringer, as it helped maintain a better flow of combat and offensive pressure, which was kind of an issue with Devil May Cry 3, as often times an enemy would move away and you can't close the distance fast enough to keep a combo going.

I was gonna say the same thing as a hot take, but I guess it's not that hot. I actually hate using Dante in this game. He feels super weak and unsatisfying.

Did anyone else feel like Dante's weapons were also just kind of weird in that game? Or was I just really bad at playing Dante in DMC 4? I do enjoy playing as him in 5, but I could never get used to his moveset in 4.

Only mid way though V but so far

3>5>1>4>2

I like the combat, but the vibe of the game matters more to me. I barely even remember what 4 is about.

Isn't Dante really strong, just hard to use? I agree though, I found him annoying to use in DMC4 compared to Nero.

Things are better in DMC5 though. Maybe it's just because I like Dantes weapons better in this game.

I think it's less of Dante being annoying to use and more of the enemies seemed to have been specifically designed for Nero. Probably why DMC5 is so good.

That's the weird thing, he feels absolutely great, but the reason he's hard to use is because the enemies are tailored specifically for Nero. Tailored extremely well, admittedly, but they really could have used a sort of "Dante mode" that operates differently with Dante.

But I will say, the bosses are so well designed when playing as Nero, and the timing is flawless. It's a shame they weren't allowed to finish the second half of the game and tailor stuff to Dante.
