My favorite trendy stock story was whoever here said their coworker bought GameStop and was bragging about it when it was at its peak price and he didnt come back to work again for a few days after it went down right after. Or something like that.

Im hoping RIOT rides the Coinbase wave. I need it to stay above $48 on Friday. I reckon its my new favorite stock to sell puts on and Im going to keep selling weekly puts for 10% under its current price. Seems like the easiest way to make $5k per week, and if it does hit the strike price then I like the odds of it rising shortly after.

The only downside is days like today where it goes up 10% and I wouldve made more through owning the stock outright, but thats fine.

@Metal_DK hope you sold most or all of your RGBP yesterday! I sold half in the high .07s and definitely regret not selling the whole thing. Feeling pretty optimistic we see those prices again before the week is over. Also picked up a few more this morning on the dip, .045, but those extra shares I'm likely to sell real soon to be safe.

i still have a fair bit. I sold a tad more today at .067 today about 40 minutes ago. Probably will buy back in honestly, but the RSI and shooting star on the chart yesterday kinda said short term sell

A lot of times high RSI means good buying pressure and volume too though, since an overbought stock tends to continue getting overbought on an uptrend. Yeah, I tried to sell some more this morning before the green to red move and my order never got filled. Hopefully comes back and tests this morning's high soon. I'll sell the rest of mine if it hits .07. Can't get too greedy on these penny plays.

Glad I've at least learned to always sell half on these crazy quick trades, but so far every $30k+ trade I've had, the better move would have been to just sell the whole thing.

I think unless you have some fundamental reason to believe in the company to continue to grow the right move is to sell the whole thing.

If you're just playing hype you're going to lose money more often than not by holding because regression happens more often than the stock continuing to go up immediately.

Now if you want to sell half and hold the rest long that's another type of play entirely.

In penny stock world, i rarely see that long term. Usually there is a leveling off/sell off to a more reasonable RSI range. For every OWCP a few years ago or what not, there are hundreds of ones that don't see some sustained high RSI.

edit: by long term i mean over the course of a few weeks/months

Yeah, and except with AVCT I'm usually playing hype. The one time I actually sell everything with AMC, I buy back a few days later too high.

I've been in so many double and triple bagger plays I should have made so much more from. Really gotta get it through my thick head to take all the money and run. Selling half on a huge run is still gambling.

I mean I do think selling half on a huge run is completely fine strategy.

Just not for stuff where your mindset is stuff like

StartTheMachine posted...
I don't necessary believe this is really the next ENZC. I'm not smart enough to understand the science, and would rather take the money and be safe.

It WILL dip after the run at some point-- you can't always time the top perfectly but you're going to be selling half on the way up or the way down

And while it may come back even stronger after said dip you probably aren't going to have the patience to hold long enough for that and just end up settling for a smaller gain in the end.

So I mean I often sell half-- that's my trademark move, but yeah only when I believe in the stock quite a bit. AMC I didn't sell half. AVCTW I didn't sell half.

Sounds like just mining with renewable energy.

Which is still bad because it costs resources to build and upkeep the renewable power infrastructure, but not as terrible

Think of energy like money

If you spend all your money on the cause of buying heroin to distribute to school children, it is, I suppose, better if you use money you obtained by the profits made by your contracting company you worked hard to build from the ground up, than by robbing a bank.

But ultimately wasting energy is wasting energy, and all this is doing is trying to create a sustainable source of power for the energy it's wasting when you could better use that energy for pretty much anything else.

For the energy cost it absolutely is

At some point our renewable energy infrastructure may reach the point where the energy cost isn't relevant because we're spending energy we have in abundance

But putting more money into infrastructure for renewable energy doesn't change the cost or the fact that that cost is better used on other things right now

You can spend $400 on a Zero Bar or a Milky Way or whatever if you make 400k a year all you want and it doesn't matter, but that doesn't mean you couldn't get much better things for that $400.

I also think it's a waste to spend millions on energy to produce milk because I think milk is gross, but that's kind of a dumb comment to make, right? Because you don't find value in something means that it shouldn't be produced since energy is finite? Pretty arrogant and solipsistic.

You could certainly argue crypto brings value to justify energy usage, but it's pretty much inarguable that it does not currently provide actual value to society for how much energy it's currently using. The scale is so out of sync.

Though obviously it provides monetary value to the people using that energy. It's such a strange place to be.

It's cute that you think topping off your statement with an exclamation point from your word of the day calendar makes your analogy on point, but your analogy would be accurate if for example instead of milk as a whole, it was one specific brand of hypothetical new milk, say I dunno, TechLactenZ. In a hypothetical world TechLactenZ had to destroy 3 adult trees per gallon of milk they produced as part of the milk refining process (we grind up trees and put it into the milk-- I don't get it either) yet said they were superior because you could drink this milk anywhere you wanted to even when people didn't want you to drink milk.

Putting off exploring this new milk source until we could reliably generate adult trees at our leisure would not be thought of as arrogant as much as practical unless we wanted to drain the world's supply of trees because this milk maybe takes a little longer to spoil than Borden's. Planting a bunch of trees to help this new milk company have trees to destroy to make their milk helps, but doesn't solve the core problem.

But when you have an entire industry trying to oppose better energy sources then a crypto energy crisis could be the shot in the arm that is needed to drive a push for improved clean energy.

Disclaimer: I am not educated enough on the topic to have an informed opinion on the dangers of crypto energy consumption. This is merely an idle thought about the leverage that the oil and coil industries have to prevent clean energy progress and how capitalistically generated energy crisis might create a large enough demand for new energy that it can't be lobbied against.

I'm only about $107 into margin and have 50k in savings. I just want to learn about margin for when I do invest more. I see margin being fine for short term plays but I'm not going to play with it that much at TD Ameritrade's ridiculous 9.5% margin rate.
