I enjoyed the action. Not a fan of the game series but know the story etc but 2 things I didn't like is.
Lui Kang is poorly casted everyone is fit for their role except him . They could of put a wig on the main dude and he would of made a better Lui Kang. Also That Goro Fight was just horrible. Everything else was alright.

Any fight scene as good as the Liu Kang vs Reptile fight from the first movie

I thought it was super dumb and I loved it.

I also thought I had it nailed that Cole Young was Kuai Liang, the second Sub-Zero, but I was wrong. Cole's the descendant of Scorpion and a pure OC.

Which at the end of the day is no problem for me. It's not like we needed another movie where Liu Kang is the main character and kills Shang Tsung and the end. We had that already. This is different.

It's also very clearly just a first chapter.

Scorpion is in the movie. Like undead wraith and everything. Comes back in the final battle to fight Sub-Zero.

I miss took cole being a descendant as him. As in the next one to take on scorpions soul. Oimd of like ghost rider. So he is basically takes then. Fuck them for that too.

If they do a sequel and enough people cry about Cole, I could see them morphing him into Takeda. I could squint and convince myself his super power looked similar to Takeda's suit.

Twkeda is my favorite character after scorpion and then comes johnny cage. So yeah this movie pisses me off as two of my favorite characters are getting snubbed and I thought it was gonna ge tthe other one too. But yeah I was into this movie until they put cole at the forefront and giving powers to peopel through the tattoo jsut so many stupid things I dont want to waste my time.

The movie was fucking awesome, Fuck what the "critics" say. I can guarantee that they're not fans of the franchise or have never played any of the games. I loved seeing Cole and Scorpion team up to fight Sub Zero, Sonya Blade looked hot as hell too. The CGI was cool and i liked how the fighters had to unlock their powers. I hope we get a sequel so we can see Johnny Cage and other fighters. I think Kano should have fought for Earth Realm, yeah i know he's a bad guy but you'd think he wouldn't want earth destroyed.

Overall, damn good movie and it stayed pretty close to the games and it's the best movie based on a video game to date. No other movie based on a video game can compare, 99% of them don't follow the source material.

More or less I hate cole and I hate it even more he is being pushed over my favorite characters or connected to them. That's why I'm pissed. Though I did react to much over first being wrong, but the fix wasnt much better anywyas. Especially since all of scorpions clan and family was killed. They should have kist went with takes honestly.

I wouldn't say they can't compare since the first movieis is considered the best videogame adapted movie. Heck it was so good the developers borrowed from the movie. I hoenstly hope we don't get cole in the video game timeline but I know we will.

Nah, he is the main character in the games too. Until deadly alliance. Then they brought him back in the reboot as the protaganist again.

I enjoyed it for what it was. I thought the roster would be a little bigger but they were uh... pretty straightforward and literal about stuff.

Pros: Everyone actually gets their abilities. FATALITIES!!! Great costume design. Kano is still a loveable asshole. Great action overall. Meshad Brooks makes for a surprisingly good Jax.

Cons: 90s Shang Tsung was a far more imposing villain even while hamming it up. He didn't need a voice changer to sound frightening when saying "Your soul is MINE".
Cole is a big giant bag of generic "meh". Freaking Kung Lao gets a 2 second fight, yet the OC gets to take on the big names.

Between this and the Batman movies it really shows how uninspired Hollywood has gotten when it comes to set design. 90s Gotham had actual character, 2000s Gotham is a generic US city. Same thing here. The ship, Netherrealm and Outworld are all memorable locations. Here Outworld is a quarry with a statue in it. If it weren't for the inside of Raiden's temple the entire movie would've been generic US city and deserts.

That does make me dislike Cole even more then. Theres really no reason to have him in the movie at all.

the kano sweep reference was fucking hilarious.

only thing that disappointed me was that the tournament theme just didn't feel like a tournament but was more like random street brawls. i guess it's hard to write a believable setup where they all gather around bloodsport style.

also, noticed they changed the iconic scorpion line to be more like the video game.. guess the movie makers read the comments xd

I didn't care for it honestly. First 12 minutes or so (I didn't watch it ahead of time) were really good, but then I was struggling to keep watching for the next hour or so. The last set of fights were pretty cool (especially when Scorpion pops back up) and elevated the whole thing to a "meh".

5/10ish

I loved it. I will buy it when its available to buy.

I liked Mileena

My only complaints were what they did with Reptile, and Kabals voice actor...

I just got back from watching it. Hell I'll see it again. It was pretty cool. Didn't try to rehash the too much from the games. Just pulled from a pool of characters, threw in an OC character, and let them have at it. Hell they even let everyone have their powers and shit. Nice little tip of the hats to other characters not appearing as well

Massive spoilers for the movie in this post!

I thought it was mostly trash, with a few good parts here and there.

I really enjoyed the few fatalities we got, especially the Kung Lao one. It's a classic from the game. But they happened so rarely that they almost felt like they were from a different movie and tacked on. There really needed to be more of them.

My mind got kinda blown when fucking Nitara of all character appeared. I love her and she looked cool and all, but yeah, I just didn't think they'd go that deep.

Goro being a random goon was kinda weird.

Actor wise, there were some good choices, and some bad ones. Liu Kang was baby faced, yeah, but damn he was ripped. I was actually kinda happy with him. Kung Lao looked like Kung Lao, and I liked his appearance. Jax was fine. Sub-zero was good, though his mask sucked. It didn't fit him. They needed to make it look more like the video game, also there was no blue! Everything was so black, I barely recognized it was him when they first showed him. Scorpion was a good actor, but they were too afraid to make him look like Scorpion at the end. His eyes needed to be all white, but they weren't, and again, the bad mask.

Sonya was SUPER damn hot. I mean geez she was hot. Probably the best live action Sonya, just behind the turbo hot one from MK: Annihilation.

Cole was pointless. They didn't need him. Could have centered the movie around someone else.

They turned Raiden from a 7 foot tall god into a wispy manlet. Rly gud job gais.

Shang sung was an okay actor but I get the feeling the direction was all wrong. He looked the part, but acted more like the Emperor than a wily sorcerer.

Kano was hilarious.

And of course, the most disappointing part of the entire movie, Mileena. A three part failure:

1) The actress looks nothing like Mileena (although she was pretty hot and has a great body).

2) The outfit looks nothing like Mileena (where is the pink?), and the mouth was cheaply done. Just splashed some red paint on her cheeks for the whole movie, then a few seconds before she dies they quickly show her mouth open. Great way to waste the character!

3) The way the character was written and directed was completely wrong. Mileena is one of the most feral, bat-shit crazy characters in the entire MK universe, that's what makes her so amazing. She's fucking nuts. An abomination of life. She's the Joker of the MK world. She should be prancing about and ripping through throats. Instead, she was a silent, characterless goon for the Emperor--I mean Shang Sung. What a disappointment.

As far as the fighting, it was some decent fighting, but at this point in my life I want something elevated and special for MK live action fighting. I want to be stunned and amazed. I want long shots, and wild camera tricks, and game style X-ray shots of bones getting broken and organs getting smashed. I wanted something kinda mind blowing, and we just got some okay fight choreography, with a few CGI fireballs and iceballs thrown in here and there. If they can't go all the way and deliver something game-changing I'm kinda not interested.

But beyond that, I just feel disappointed because the first Mortal Kombat actually has so much opportunity to do some really fascinating things, and instead the movie is just a jumble of super hero stuff. I feel like my perfect Mortal Kombat movie would go back to being dark and moody and atmospheric. A fighting tournament on a creepy, dark island, with a maddened wizard as the host, and all kinds of interesting, high tense conversations and build ups between rivals. There's a lot of character in that first game, you know? Lots of space for characters to breathe and move and stretch, lots of mystery, lots of intrigue could be had. But instead we just got a breakneck Marvel style movie without the Marvel style production.

I watched the movie just now. I didnt really care for the story. I liked how they incorporated their classic fatalities and phrases in the movie. I agree the Liu Kang was criminally miscast and underused and the Goro fight was weak as hell.

Shit I liked the Liu Kang. I thought he was intended to be a younger, somewhat less experienced Liu Kang and that's what it felt like. I liked how he didn't seem like the solution to everybody's problems by himself and way out of everybody else's league.

Kabal's Godfather accent was kind of weird though lol
