I'm not really understanding why it's a major bad thing. If the US only effectively has 60-70 million viable doses and each person takes 2, and there's only been given 200 million doses in a nation of 325+ million, that doesn't strike me as a position to be generous with doling out vaccines internationally.

Maybe my numbers are wrong or I just don't understand something here, but yeah.

We have a stockpile as we still have a massive number of doses to still administer. Plus a load of the vaccines sent out were stuff that Euros seemed unwilling to take, so they're getting bonus points for sharing stuff they deem unsafe.

Hopefully this convinces Canada to rebuild their long-dismantled domestic vaccine production facilities. So the Canadian government wouldn't have to be in a position where they need to beg the rest of the world for vaccines.
