depends on how you're trying to get rid of that debt
in what way would buying games be justified?

how about if someone had 1,200 in cc debt, and they bought an upcharged gaming console for about 400, and then a headset for 100?

If it ends up being a rare game that you can sell for thousands later to pay off the debt then that could justify it

I have like $9500 in CC debt, but its at 0% interest.

I have a budget plan to pay it off before the interest kicks in, and that budget allows for some fun money to spend on myself. Could I pay off the card a month or two faster by cutting that fun money? Yes, but its 0% interest so who cares

I've never had credit card debt, or serious debt of any kind, but I have been poor for much of my life with no real cushion and that landed me in some rough spots. There were moments that I spent money on stuff like games and other shit instead of important things but the reprieve I got from them was invaluable and kept me going in the long run.

Slogging through poverty or debt without a break from obligations, especially in a world that constantly bombards us with things we should be buying, is unrealistic. This is especially true when you account for inequality and restricted access to things like healthcare and childcare that make getting stable footing to get out of debt that much harder to reach.

The only issue that immediately jumps out there is, what if your situation changes? By focusing on your debts while you know you can pay them, and nuking them sooner, you reduce the risk of that.

But if it's genuinely 0% interest - keeping in mind that monthly fees for having outstanding balance etc are really just interest by another name - then sure, there's no other real problem besides that.

Don't think 1k debt is that much...
Anyhow it depends how much is your so called games. Being honest I spend at most 120 a year on games. 120 dollars shouldn't break anyone's bank.

I may get the current Gen consoles eventually, but I'm too busy to care about them and none of my friends got it so idc? The old Gen will suffice for now.

Most people should absolutely not be buying a damn video game if you're in credit card debt. But there is a small percentage that knows how to properly use them for rewards and/or pay it off before the interest kicks in

I use mine for the rewards since I can easily pay everything off each month. Just by paying every possible purchase with my credit card and paying it off the same week over the last couple years I've built up enough to get a PlayStation 5 once I can actually find one

Being in debt doesn't mean you shouldn't buy for fun things anymore. IMO I'd say never spending on pleasure for the sake of your debt is bad advice.

IMO it all depends on how much you are spending, how much you owe, and how much you make.

If you're struggling to pay your bills, then ofc I wouldn't promote buying games. However, at the same time I wouldn't shame that person for purchasing one 60 dollar new game that entire year.

It also goes without saying someone not struggling to pay your bills, you make decent money, and have CC debt (which btw can range from $1 to whatever).....I see no reason to shame this person splurging on a new generation system.

Simply having debt isn't a reason to not splurge (reasonably ofc).

Not a new one at the moment. Maybe in the fall though. Had I not been laid off last year, my bill would have been paid off a lot sooner.
