...depending on your choices?

like, your choices don't even have to be (obvious) moral ones, just stuff that they're not cool with.

I think it can be cool if you can swap out your party, so you won't be screwed if they leave.

I like how Star Ocean does it, but I prefer having everyone join/stay actually be an option.

Whatever, so long as I know ahead of time, so that nobody flighty is getting any meaningful investment in grinding and rare gear.

It's fine when it's not ridiculous.

Like in Dragon Age Origins. That game does it really well.

depends on the amount of investment and compensation.

FF7? I bench Aeris the second I can because Limit Breaks are gained based on kills and uses of LBs, so the loss of an active unit means someone is coming in at a poopy level 1. No compensation, not a fan (not really a choice, either)...

Chrono Cross? Sure, I could not give Kid medicine, but I get some other characters instead (like Glen!) so it's more of a branch point and that's pretty cool imo.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer.

Ok, so I ate the embodiment of the ceaseless void of the Wall of the Faithless that is in my soul and became a horrid abomination in the eyes of gods and demons alike.

I guess that's a decent reason to be upset with me.

I hated it as a kid. As an adult I don't mind if the story has a good reason for it.

It's dumb that the paladin bitch has the nerve to leave my party just because I wanted to burn down an oprhanage.

Temporarily or permanently? I have a very different opinion depending on which one.

When you buy equipment and items for a character that leaves your party at the next plot progression mission

In games where crazy ass dangerous shit keeps happening more of them need to permanently die.

I made this topic because I was reminded by the Wasteland 3 board about how depending on who to side with, you can lose some of your party members at the end. they won't necessarily die/be killed, but you're given the option to arrest one of the dudes because he's cool with you, but he's loyal to the marshalls, and choosing to side with a specific person puts him in a complicated position

How many RPGs have people leaving your party due to moral issues though? The only examples I know of are from the Tactics Ogre and Growlanser series.

I don't mind it if it's done well. What annoys me more are the games that force you to use characters you don't normally use because "we need to split into groups". The Cold Steel games do this and it annoys the hell out of me.

I always hated how mad Korcha gets if you say you don't know how to save Kid. But fuck him, I want Glen lol.

from the last couple of RPGs that I've played, your party members could leave if you killed innocents in Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Wasteland 3.

I was upset the first time I played through Mass Effect 1 when you got to a point when you had to kill Wrex. Of course I didnt know there was stuff you had to do to get on his good side to prevent that happening as I was like 15 when I played it
