I'm not gonna say that the alcohol companies are innocent, but there's a big difference between them and the tobacco companies. How many regular smokers aren't addicted? I'd bet the answer is less than l/10th of a percent.

Me. I like to have a smoke or two on the weekends, thats it.

Alcohol companies are just as bad, its just more socially acceptable. One person with too much to drink can kill a lot of people on the road.

Alcohol is still allowed to be advertised on tv...its ridiculous.

Im cool with that, I used to smoke alot
of Pipe Tobacco and found that to be an incredibly enjoyable experience

Totally different too, just an all around different kind of smoke.. dunno about cigars as they tend to have their own character profiles but something about the draw of the actual pipe did bring out all these wonderful notes of the tobacco I was smoking.

The whole process, something about it just feels right

People do a lot of bad things illegally. We're not any better if we profit off those things. The solution to exploitation is not to normalize it so "at least the money goes to 'the right places'" If you want to stop drug dealers, then crush them instead of taking their place.

We shouldn't jail heroin addicts, but anyone that produces and sells it is a rotten piece of shit.

Thats not relevant to the fact the banning things has never worked and that every country who has decriminalized drugs has seen nothing but positive effects as a result.

Decriminalize usage. Don't decriminalize drug dealing. Those scumfucks should be on the fringes of society.

It doesn't matter if there is a market or we can use legal money from it for supposedly good reasons. You're still taking advantage of people for money. Big Tobacco and politicians who benefit from Big Tobacco are no different than Pablo Escobar.

I don't want people legally making money from selling addiction and exploiting others. There is no difference between a tobacco exec and a cartel leader, but we call one a legitimate businessman. I have no problem with the tobacco plant being legal. Grow your own. Or these companies can eliminate nicotine from their cigarettes, but removing their guaranteed return customers is bad for their bottom line.

If we believe that something is wrong, then it doesn't follow that it should be legal to profit off that wrong. Is the problem with the drug trade the service or the untrustworthiness?
