Should the ring return to the person who bought it or stay with the person it was given to?

When my brothers fiance broke off their engagement, she would not give the ring back for the longest time. It was baffling and infuriating to me, and I wonder how others feel about the idea.

It's absolutely customary and expected to return the ring.

dont mean to derail this topic, but engagement rings are stupid tbh and I dont see the point in them.

Literally just a waste of money when wedding rings exist

depends. if we had separate accounts when bought and only my money was spent on it, I would expect it back. shared accounts, it gets sold or she buys back my half.

id never buy a ring worth a shit ton of cash anyway so I might say fuck it you can have that shit.

it was a gift, it ought to stay with whomever it was given to

It's up to that person on if they want to be petty or not. Given the circumstance of the wedding call off, this might be warranted.

A gift is a gift. However if the guy took a loan out to afford it or something (which would be outrageously stupid) instead of staying in his means, it would be pretty cold hearted not to return it if asked.

Everything changes in the case if fidelity on either side though. The woman should feel free to pawn it and pocket the cash if he cheats, and he should be able to demand its return if she does.

If its a family ring it should 100% be returned though.
