Absolutely not. If I wanted vanilla I'd eat some ice cream not play a game.

Usually yes. My biggest exceptions are older games with compatibility issues or games that are so buggy you practically need the patch.

Nah.
I can't see any point in not modding if it fixes glitches that harm the experience, restores cut content and/or touches up the graphics. Not wanting major gameplay or story changes I can understand (and I avoid those on a first playthrough myself). wesp's mod for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is a good example. Supposedly the game has some major issues without it. I didn't even try the vanilla game. Ditto for KOTOR 2, in which I used the mod that restores cut content. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I play Bethesda games so of course this doesn't hold true.

Deus Ex with Kentie's launcher is one example. Then of course you have mods for things like controller support. I had to fiddle around with a few things to get it working in GTA: San Andreas. Actually, that reminds of the new GTA 3 engine that came out recently. It added features from VC/SA like proper camera controls. Oh shit, it got DMCA'd lol: https://github.com/GTAmodding/re3 ... I half agree with the title. I go into games unmodded, but I don't have to beat the game to know what would make it better. Maybe 25-50 percent through the game I'll take a look at the mods and see what's there, often only grabbing 0-2 mods because I don't care about cosmetics, just gameplay adjustments, graphics, and UI.
Age also matters, like I played KOTOR recently and it has a well established mod scene that's easy to find the best and most useful mods. So I loaded up all the mods before starting the game. I imagine the same would be true for Skyrim. --- I am a juggler/prop manipulator/fire performer, here's my channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/markconigliaro ... Copied to Clipboard!
