Guess companies should start paying people an actual livable wage if they want them to work there. You know things are fucked up when the workers are such wage slaves that being unemployed is a (temporary) status increase.

They need that sum total to survive, and if they aimed for more, they would end up with less. It's not a good deal. It's not like people who don't qualify can just collect for free and not have to pay that back and meet other requirements for their benefits. Companies should pay their essential workers more, but they rather shut down and go out of business rather than "give money away", according to them.
