Speaking from personal experience, the mental health/obesity/body-image situation is a helluva thing to work through. Any solution to it seems so daunting as to be impossible or the results too good to be true. You have to get your mind right before you get your grind right because weight loss isn't the holy grail for a fat person's mental health issues that people think it is, even fat people.
That's actually one of the FA/HAES movement's points that I agree with a lot. If you put too much stock in weight loss bringing happiness, you're setting yourself up for disaster. I experienced that the first time I lost a lot of weight. I was still miserable and since my "one true path" forward was a dead end, I had nowhere to go but backwards and ended up way worse off for my efforts. Exercise also helps but only to a certain extent and only if you can actually implement it. When you struggle with depression and other mental health issues, things have a habit of being way harder and even the simplest things become damn near impossible. Exercise is a huge part of my physical and mental health regimen now but there was a time when a simple walk around the block evoked dread and hopelessness. I'm now capable of so much more about three and half years into turning things around but it took a lot of work to get to this point, and not just my body becoming accustomed to it. I had to learn to appreciate myself enough to take care of myself long enough to start seeing the serious benefits that help with momentum. I don't really know from where in me that came though. I think of how I used to live, how I saw myself and the world and don't understand how I got out of the cycle I was in while I still had the chance. I am mentally and physically in the best shape of my life and things are getting better all the time. I still need therapy and I honestly still feel on some days that I might need medication. The benefits of lifestyle change have been tremendous for me but they still might not be enough. Because mental health is a lot more complicated than that. Anyway, I only have a slight idea of what Lizzo may be experiencing so I can't comment too much on her situation but I do hope she can find peace and happiness. NeonOctopus posted... Nah I definitely know >_>IIRC she's posted a lot of workout videos on social media. The problem is that at that weight, exercise is a less important part of weight management. Diet matters way more and it doesn't really matter how much you work out if you're eating the same amount of calories as an elite athlete but not training like one. --- Spongebob is not a contraceptive. ... And joel's phrasing implies it's a consistent thing.you literally cannot know whether or not someone exercises by looking at their body. you need other information to determine that. I admit, I don't know very much about Lizzo. I don't particularly care about her or her music, so it's not really on my radar aside from what see in passing online. as such, I do not know if she has talked about her lifestyle at all. I also don't particularly care -- that's her business. but interviews about that would be -- wow! -- a source of information beyond a picture of her body until you demonstrate otherwise, I'm going to assume that you're in a similar position to me regarding knowledge of Lizzo: that is, you do not actually know anything about her lifestyle, and should not be making assumptions about it --- peanut butter and dick ...
