He told a story about Jesus meeting a grieving mother. He noted that her husband was already dead and now her son too. So Jesus said don't be sad and brought her son back from the dead

Wtf kind of story is that to tell. If you're sad, don't worry cuz Jesus will just bring people back from the dead? And I guess if he doesn't???

He didn't even try to extrapolate meaning from it. He just said it and said see gods great. Huh?????

Later on they said a dude has cancer at that church. I guess hope Jesus brings you back?

Yea, i once went with a friend of mine. The topic was on substance abuse and recovery so there several recovering addicts in the house. The pastor literally opened up by saying that we have no control, we can't stop addiction ourselves, no one can help us, its hopeless....Unless we find god because god is the only one who can do it for it..

I was like, Bro...what the fuck kind of message is that to tell a bunch of recovering addicts?

Jesus was a man, and as such was subject to human emotion and whims. Dude probably just felt bad about the situation. But He was also God, so He actually had the power to do something about it.

ive always been resistant of her church, and she knows it has its share of problematic things, but ive always been supportive of her faith, and shes always known i have my criticisms of it. its never really come between us. i go with her on special events just to be there for her.

I dunno if it's supposed to help with that. I think it's just a snapshot of the life of Christ to show that He suffered from the human condition, too. Or perhaps it's a demonstration of His power, so that people trust that all of this injustice will be undone or irrelevant at the time of Christ's return.

I'm not a believer btw, I'm just playing Christ's advocate.

I used to think that I could date a girl into religion and it would be just like her "thing" and I won't have anything to do with it, like a hobby. If you aren't religious, it really isn't a good idea unless you want to spend countless weekends doing this crap, and dating someone who bases at least a significant part of her identity on it.

Don't think there was a lesson to be taught from that story other than being a "feel good" story. Probably why the pastor couldn't really get into it lol.

Did the TC say pastor couldn't get into it? I have gone to church with a girl as well (when I was in my early 20's and didn't know any better.) and it seems like the pastor gets excited no matter what nonsense he's spewing.

Oh I meant extrapolate a moral from the story, a pastor or priest getting excited or being energetic about a bible passage is dependent on the personality.
