Another Resident Evil platinum in the books! Eightage is another fantastic entry the series that tries to evoke memories of RE4, but at its core is really a bigger, badder version of RE7. While maybe not as scary as 7 was (except one certain segment), the gameplay, characters and story are all a tier above and was something I enjoyed replaying multiple times towards the platinum.

The game keeps mixing up its areas to keep you engaged and they all kind of have a theme.

The main village hub aims for that RE4 feel
The Castle Dimitrescu is more your RE1 style mansion
The Dollhouse is Capcom taking a stab at a Silent Hill style area (and knocking it out of the park. Best area in the game and scariest moment in the series)
The Fishing Town is kinda the only underbaked area. I guess it was going for the RE4 lake with a giant fish boss, but it's over so fast it barely registers.
The factory is like a Doom 3 area filled with cyber demons
Then you got the ending segment which is straight up a military shooter.

I hope next time they try to take on Fatal Frame and ghosts!

The platinum is pretty similar to past Resident Evil games where you have to finish the story on all difficulties, find all the collectibles, do a speedrun, do a knife only run, do a low healing run and so on. I ended up doing a blind run first on Standard, but I missed a few of the collectibles (mainly the wooden goats you have to destroy). Beyond that I pretty much thoroughly explored every area and ended up with a final time of 11:35.

After that I combined the speedrun, knife only run, low healing run and spend less than 10K in the shop into a single playthrough on casual. Final time there was 2:25 and it wasnt really too bad at all.

Then I did a 3rd run on Casual just to build up more money so I could max out the strongest magnum so I could buy infinite ammo for it as well as buy all the other gun mods

Then I played through all of The Mercenaries mode where you have to at least S Rank all 8 stages. This was definitely the most difficult part of the playthrough as the combo windows are very tight and you have to basically memorize all the enemy spawn locations to keep a combo going throughout the entire stage so you can finish with at least an S rank (ideally an SS rank though so you can unlock the lightsaber). You can get through all the normal version of each stage just using the sniper rifle (except the final boss in the 4th stage when you want to use a shotgun), but for the hard versions of those stages they take all that away and youre forced to just upgrade the basic pistol and use that and explosives to survive and buying a magnum when you can, but it has limited ammo.

After that was all done I finally went ahead and blasted through Village of Shadows difficulty with the infinite ammo magnum. Both this and 3rd run were roughly 4 hours each since I wasnt really trying to speed run it. After that you unlock the ROCKET PISTOL which is basically the rocket launcher shrunk down into a pistol with mini rockets. Kinda goofy, but neat!

Its hard to come up with a ranking for these games, but if I stick to just the mainline games and their remakes it probably looks like something like this currently

Based on that ending looking forward to whatever they have planned for the finale of the Winters Family trilogy in RE9, but I supposed Revelaitons 3 is going to be the next one up. I should get around to playing Revelaitons 2 at some point >___>
