Congrats. Work nights in a hospital and start off that way. I would avoid days. If you wanna go get higher Education and get your np or crna, do icu.

I did hospital nursing, its not easy, its tough, but I love my 12 hour shifts working 2-3 in a row and 2-3 days off.

i work in a prison now as a nurse just started and still in orientation, but its 8 hours. Its tiring to be honest. 8 hours 5x a week sucks. Ill see after 1-2 years if I like being a correctional nurse. But I heard some of my coworkers in prison make 155-175k$ by doing overtime. I wanted to try corrections because of the pension and the work seems easy. But I hate the charting and documentation, its a lot to do. Prison nursing is so task oriented its tedious. And the inmates are manipulative and mentally draining. Inmates find ways to sue your ass and take you to court and thats why documentation had to be thorough. Its stressful tbh but at least I dont gotta wipe poop, or do total care since they are independent. But the legality and the risk of being sued sucks

but working for the VA hospital or Kaiser California hospitals, man the work there is easy and the benefits is great especially the pension. I might apply there if the prison thing doesnt work out for me

Told you TC. Lmao.

I mean, yeah it's not a secret. NPs know fuck all and routinely mismanage patients.

NP school is a money making business. The more NP graduates the more that school gets even if those NP are not ready to practice clinically. I mean who wants to train and precept a new NP. Theres more NPs out there than positions available and most NP work as staff nurses coz they cant get a job off their chosen masters in nursing

There are absolutely good NPs. It's not a debate that there are an unfortunate amount of degree mills out there, and I agree on better training. Assuming all NPs are bad because you've had bad experiences with them isn't realistic.

Of course. I should roll back my previous statement. But the caveat is so large that people should go out of their way to state that there are good NPs, rather than the inverse. I'm sure you're aware of the problems that plague the profession, which until they're addressed will be a blight upon the training and practice within the NP field. Overwhelmingly more often than not (and as you've touched on especially with online degree mills but honestly even with brick-and-mortar schools) they are criminally undertrained in the medical model and classes tend to focus on hospital policy and advocacy more than pathophysiology. Additionally, nurses who commit blatant malpractice are not beholden to medical boards, but are beholden to the nursing board and have their licenses unrevoked because the nursing board is housed by RNs rather than NPs. This is a serious problem. NPs are a quick cash-in for the next few years but are rapidly overwhelming their own market and driving healthcare intop the hands of corporate medicine.

Since youre a new grad, i would try and work different areas. Work lets say med-surg/tele
for 1-2 years. Apply to another hospital because youll get a big raise by going to anther hospital, work ER for 1-2 years. Then specialize, work ICU or go to surgery. If you get sick and tired, try case management or outpatient nursing.

just get as much experience as you can while youre young and build up that resume. if you can get into the VA system, do it.
