I feel like Bloodborne is technically sci-fi, so it gets my vote.

as far as more traditional sci-fi goes, Arrival is probably my favorite sci-fi movie.

Definitely the best series for expanse, best game is a lot more contested but mass effect is a good choice. Movie I'd probably go with Annihilation.

Yeah, Bloodborne isn't slightly sci-fi.

Good list, though. ME gets a bad rap from the ending but it's still 98% fantastic.

i do not know what an Andromeda is stop saying that word

Mass Effect is just a mash up/rip off of a bunch of other IPs. I'm not saying it's a bad game trilogy, but lmao @ this topic.

most early sci fi had elements of fantasy an horror. The first sci fi novel is arguably Frankenstein

Bloodborne at its core is a story about a group of scholars making a scientific discovery that changes the world and how that discovery undoes them as they commit atrocities along the way of making that science a religion. It definitely falls in line with sci fi

also, i'm going to be really sad if they don't find a way to adapt the last trilogy.

Last book is out late this year or early next year. Can't fucking wait

And nothing was confirmed but there was some people theorizing that the final three books will be adapted into three TV films instead, which is why the series ended.

They definitely have something planned considering what we saw at the end of S5

I haven't read the books, but I have just seen on Reddit that the book has been submitted to his publisher.

Not sure if that's pre or post editing, but either way likely means it won't be more than a year away.

Whatever happened with that?

Sequels aren't Nolans thing but he talked about building off of Inception in a video game or something but that never materialized

Mass Effect 1 is a fucking masterpiece.

Never saw it, but wasnt the Battlestar Galactica reboot pretty hyped during its run? Or do reboots not count as this century? >_>

Does anyone actually know of any newer scifi IPs to read? Anytime I ask or look any up I always get the super well known ones from last century basically. The Expanse is really the only one anyone ever mentions. As much as I loved Hyperion and The Culture novels, I want something newer so that I can help support the current generation of authors that need exposure too.

yeah there was such an interesting world built in that movie. There's a ton of different stuff they could have done. Like the first pioneers of dream worlds for example.

I would enjoy that, if only because my biggest complaint with Inception is that it's set in people's dreams and it's just not wild enough, not big enough. The set pieces are cool, but for the most part they're not anything I wouldn't see in a Bond flick (you know, aside from the train and shit like that coming in out of place). I watch a movie about dreams, I want to see wild, outlandish shit.

Still, the JGL fist fight in the rotating hotel was sick and I love that it was an actual set they built to rotate.

I wish ME2 and 3 felt more like ME1, which felt like an expansive, well realized world, before they turned into character studies focused on shootanz. I'm playing ME1 now on the Legendary edition and neither sequel fills me with the joy that ME1 does. The Citadel is huge and fun to explore, I actually liked the Mako and exploring random planets, it feels like the game is focused on building out it's world with unique alien species and such. Something got lost after the first one and I've never felt as strongly as 2 and 3 as I do about 1. Maybe because it still feels like a mix of RPG and Action, who knows.

i never understood this complaint with Inception. that's not what it's about, that's not even what it was trying to be about. the whole crux of how inception works is that you need to make the subject not even aware that they are dreaming. if you make things wild and outlandish, then they would realize they are dreaming and the inception wouldn't work. don't blame the movie because you had false expectations of it.

I understand that, it's the concept itself I have an issue with. I still like the movie, I just wanted a different one.

right, and that's not the movie's fault. you shouldn't be judging the movie because it's not what you wanted it to be, you should judge it for what it is.

I am. What it is isn't as good what I think it could have been. The movie didn't execute its ideas in a way that I thought was fantastic, just...good. That's a fair judgement, I'm not being outlandish and saying it sucks. I just don't like Nolans style of grounding fantastical stories like Inception and Batman so deeply in reality as much as other people.
