They were like "put it in the refrigerator in the morning and it will be thawed by dinner time"

Bullshit, it's still a block of ice. I know freezing things is smart, but this is why I don't do it, because thawing anything is basically impossible.

I know if I follow their advice about using the microwave to thaw it that will also fuck it up somehow.]

Super frustrating...

What I do sometimes when I want something thawed out fast is put it in an airtight bag, then put it in a pot in the sink filled with cold water (and put something on top of it to keep it submerged if needed). Thaws out stuff sooo much faster, if I got like 2 pounds of ground beef I need thawed it'll be like 2-3 days in the fridge before it's good, but I can have it ready in like an hour or two like this just make sure to change the water every like 20-30 minutes

Naw, you need to move it from freezer to fridge before you go to bed the night before. Then fridge to countertop sometime during the day.

Thaw it on the counter top. Probably takes about 24 hours to thaw in the fridge, give or take how cold your fridge runs. It'll only take a few hours at room temperature.

Why is everybody talking about cold water and not the counter top?

If it didn't thaw after a whole day your fridge might be too cold

In that case I would put it in the fridge the night before

You don't want it to get too warm because of bacteria.

This works too of you need something thawed asap. You don't even need to change the water. Just throw it in a pot and turn the faucet to a slow trickle

A pound of ground beef should defrost in that amount of time.

Your fridge is probably too cold

Lol, it's only a few hours and it's starting out frozen. You're also going to cook it I would assume

Blast it in the microwave on max power at ten second intervals (ten on, ten off) so it warms up but doesn't cook. Should take about 5 mins.

Or you could use the defrost function, but I wouldn't trust that.

It depends on the shape it's in when frozen. If you're freezing it yourself, spread it out so there's more surface area instead of clumped up, and it will thaw much quicker.

Parts already cooked before getting to season them first.

The water trick would work faster, if say you need something thawed in less than an hour. Water disperses temperature faster than air.

But if you need something for dinner, setting it on the counter in the morning will have it thawed by dinner, unless it's like a massive roast or something.

Because of the difference in thermal conductivity between water and oxygen.

Yup, this is true as well. I always flatten it as much as the freezer bag allows. Thaws super quick
