The new Batman show is actually being headed by Bruce Timm and will tie into the Matt Reeves movie, similar to how BTAS originally tied into Batman Returns.

Surely this will help expand DCs pop culture presence. Batman and Superman. Yet again. For the thousandth time.

They couldn't get an actual Japanese studio to draw Superman so they went with the Westernized anime look instead.

This art design gives me hope. I mean, it's my first choice. But it's a lot better than that forthcoming He-Man's character design.

Without Dwayne McDuffie around to do the writing, I'm cautiously optimistic at best for another Bruce Timm cartoon. Don't get me wrong, I love the DCAU stuff, but then he did that Batman and Harley Quinn movie and uhh....yeah.

Oh yeah, and of course JJ Abrams name attached to something is almost always a bad sign.

As for the Superman cartoon, if it's trying to be like the Superman version of the Harley Quinn cartoon (which is excellent by the way), then I'll be very optimistic, otherwise, I'm not getting good vibes.

Black Jimmy might be a little racist for obvious reasons, and it would be ideal for Lois to have longer hair (short boy hair is a blight) but otherwise the cutesy animation is really selling it, I'd watch that.

Even then, Bruce Timm in the past few years has gotten a little too insane with his Batman+Batgirl thing if that killing joke movie was anything to go by. Don't know if they still have the magic of the DCAU, timeless as it is.

Dwayne McDuffie passing a way some years back hurts the writing potential a lot, he was by far the best writer the DCAU has.

Paul Dini is still around, I wonder what he's up to.

I think the real challenge for the superman show will be the villains. Are they going to make all the classic villains classmates? Go the XMen Evolution route and make some of them teachers? Will they be incidents in town that force Clark to pull away from classes? Are they going to give him some "danger" watch connected to his ship so an AI Jor-El can tell him when crime is happening? IMO that's going to make or break the show.

I guess it's because there's a focus on masculinity in some members of the Black community. If progress is challenging the status quo, then I guess it would make sense to apply that to individual groups. It's perhaps a bit patronizing when laid out like that, but I see where they're coming from on this.

To be fair, Clark looks to be less masculine than usual as well.

The recent Star Wars films highlight "how to" and "how not to" on strong characters.

Jyn Erso is strong and capable, she has flaws, she feels relatable, and she earns her victories. Rey is simply awesome at everything.

I always like it when people bring up Rogue One because the writing in most of that movie, and the characters, were really not well done at all lol

The characters in Rogue One have no development and exist only to die. The only reason people like it is the Darth Vader sequence at the end. The rest of the movie is a depressing and boring slog.

It had a good lead character: the one the main series should've had.

Just because the overall movie doesn't work, it doesn't mean that nothing about it works.

The last half hour was entertaining and a well-made action sequence.

The characters themselves and the preceding hour and a half were incredibly dull and paint-by-numbers.

Like near the end they start offing the main characters and there's barely an emotional reaction because the writing in the film did nothing to really develop them in any meaningful way or have them interact with each other in a meaningful way.

Well, she couldn't solo the entire Empire, she needed some support for the final mission, and she wasn't a force user who immediately knew how to use the full spectrum of force powers on a level higher than any other force user in history.

Ask anyone about Rogue One and if they liked it, like 90% of the time they'll either mention the Scariff battle or more specifically the Vader sequence at the end.

I'm not a star wars fan but I weirdly liked rogue one, flaws and all. Donnie Yen's character was the first time I ever felt drawn into the lore of the series and this mystical force thing and these mythical jedi the characters talk about. Really loved him in this movie.

Felicity Jones was likable too but really wanted to give a shout out to just how much I was invested with Donnie Yen's arc.
