I don't have enough free time in my life to waste it playing games that are frustrating/aren't entertaining. And I've yet to find any way to cash in eCred for cash or prizes. So I see pretty much zero value in it.

If a game offers "More Casual Than Casual, You Nub" as a difficulty, I'll probably play it. And have fun doing so.

If there is a trophy for it, Im probably playing on that difficulty. But something like Wolfenstein IIs Mein Leiben trophy with permadeath? Not interested. Lol

Doom 2016 isn't that hard, but Eternal has some BS in it sometimes.

I like my games on the hardest difficulty I can complete them at. I want a challenge but not impossibility.

if a game is good, playing it on harder difficulties can let the game mechanics really shine (part of the idea behind rogue-likes)

but yes, a game that is not actually that good (or does not have good harder difficulty modes) is usually not worth playing that way

I mean, Doom Nightmare difficulty was built off of "We made the game so hard no sane person is going to beat it", even to the point that most Doom purists still say Ultra Violence is the difficulty to beat the game at. They had to bring that back for 2016 and Eternal.

Most action games, I will start on Hard mode because I enjoy the challenge. It's rare that I will play whatever SUPER HARD mode that unlocks after a playthrough

i can play metal gear rising on the hardest difficulty, but i play paradox games on the second of five (which is half-easy). i play fire emblem games on casual but hard. any game i've put a lot of time into i end up raising the difficulty on, but it's usually on the lower end to begin with

I have always played on hard but I think I need to drop it down to normal. I just dont have the time to put into games as I used to and dying repeated frustrates me to no end.

Of course there is a great sense of catharsis when you overcome the challenge that was pushing your shit in; eg Fromsoft games. But yeah I scare my kids when I get pissed at games and that shit aint cool.

Unless something seems pretty easy or I just want to play through it once (and it has a hard mode trophy), I'll go with normal. If there's no challenge, it's not really fun. However, there's a point of diminishing returns. Plus it depends on the nature of the difficulty.

If I'm playing an action game like DMC it gets put on hard, if it's an FPS I'll do normal unless it's a classic-type shooter then it's Hard. Turn-Based RPGs also get put on hard.

I beat Monster Hunter World Iceborne and felt good... then I saw that 25% of players also did so and realized that it couldn't have been that hard then
