Never played either of these Castlevania games.
I love Symphony of the Night, all three DS games and Bloodstained. How do these compare? I've always put them off cause I felt like they probably wouldn't hold up to the DS games, but I have some down time at work so considering giving them a shot. ... Copied to Clipboard!

aria of sorrow is one of the best
circle of the moon is divisive because its closer in design philosophy to classicvania, but also very good --- BLACK LIVES MATTER Games: http://backloggery.com/wrldindstries302 \\ Music: http://www.last.fm/user/DrMorberg/ ... Copied to Clipboard!

The Sorrow games swing heavily on the SotN end. Basically the same gameplay verbatim but with a Blue Mage gimmick.
Circle swings more towards classic Castlevania but does keep some things like Metroidvania and minor RPG elements. I enjoy them both. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Aria is considered the best of the handheld ones. I really like Circle of the Moon too though, I don't think it gets enough credit.

Wow, you guys are telling me Aria is better than Portrait of Ruin, Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia????
I loved those games. I am replaying PoR right now and the only complaints I have are the animu art style and Skeletor Death. Hard to believe Aria ranks higher. ... Copied to Clipboard!

For me, Aria is the best Castlevania game. I know a lot of people prefer SotN, but everything just kinda flows better in Aria.
Circle of the Moon is decent, but feels like a game from a previous decade compared to Aria, and even SotN. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

My main gripe w/SotN as classic as it is is that it's too easy to become OP and ruin the game.
Like I still remember a friend of mine getting the Crissogram early on and cheesing the entire second castle. Is Aria a challenge? The DS games seemed to address this. ... Copied to Clipboard!

My main gripe w/SotN as classic as it is is that it's too easy to become OP and ruin the game. From an LP I remember, they definitely balanced some things about the game. Like, an item similar to the Crissagrim is in Aria, but it's massively downscaled. Range is pretty terrible and doesn't do as much damage. --- Game collection: http://www.backloggery.com/bakonbitz Gaming channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwVQm69J7bGScbv3_50C0dA ... If you end up playing circle of the moon be sure to hit walls all of the time. It's ridiculous how many of them break and reveal a permanent stat up.

Not really. It's pretty easy as far as most enemies and bosses go. I've only died a few times playing it, usually due to attrition between health drops and save points. The real challenge is navigating the castle. It feels more like Metroid than Castlevania in that respect. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
