I follow sports very much. No one should be put on that level. Kobe was just a dude. The massive outpour of tears was pathetic. No one should mourn a celebrity like that.
Shut the fuck up. If you aren't from L.A. you really can't say shit since it really isn't too uncommon to run into a few Lakers here. Hell, Michael Cooper used to live at the same apartments I used to live in way back when I was still in Culver City.

So? Cancel culture is the threat of ostracization from professional circles over a perceived failure to live up to the norms and/or social standards of said group. How else would you define it?
I don't really think its real. Like I said, most of these incidents are completely different things, there's no real unifying force behind it. Its also, like I said, not something that is "applied".

The unifying force is social media and increased political polarization which causes people to see others in increasingly black and white perspectives.

Comedy is very simple.

If you make people laugh, they don't care about how offensive your joke may or may not be. Dave Chappelle says offensive shit all the time and still has a career.

The problem that many "cancelled" comedians fall into is that they aren't funny and try to rely on shock value to get a reaction out of the audience.

Then when people figure out their gimmick and stop falling for it, they go bitch about it on social media and make themselves look even worse.

Yeah there are a lot of crappy shock comics out there

Doesn't change the fact that Chappelle gets away with a lot that other comics wouldn't. Granted, he is probably the best comic of our generation, but Chapelle is not without slip ups and has been accused of things.

Accused of things like what?

Transphobia and various isms.

He has also been accused of playing on black stereotypes for laughs and projecting himself to come from a much more urban background than he really did.

Chapelle grew up upper middle class in a DC area suburb. Both of his parents were high accomplished academics.

Chapelle himself quitting his own show was partially due to him finding issue with how he played up stereotypes for laughs

He also gets accused of not at all attempting to be funny during his stand up performances. Instead giving long drawn out monologues that don't necessarily lead to a punchline. This is something that Hannah Gadsby gets accused of, but Chapelle gets more of a pass.

The last one is more of an artistic criticism rather than something morally objectionable though.

Oh yeah, and his last set opening up for SNL was really bad and literally used "a white man" as his punchline

And yet notice how he still has a career because people find him funny, and his jokes actually come across as jokes and not the ramblings of a bigot.

Meanwhile, Ari Shaffir does not have a career because his "jokes" are so unfunny that people cannot interpret them as jokes. And when that happens, people can only assume that you're just being a dick.

Go ahead and enjoy your false idols. Gods don't exist in heaven and they don't exist here on earth either.

You are shocked because you didnt understand how people could have the reaction that they did when Kobe died.

Yeah, he has his rape scandal that did kind of get pushed under the rug, but he was literally an icon of the sport. Itd be like if Ken Griffey Jr died in a freak accident. Itd shock the shit out of the world that a megastar athlete from a lot of peoples childhood just died.

Like if you cant understand why people have the reaction they did, youre the weird one. Kobe was a huge part of a lot of peoples lives growing up. Like I said, I hated him hardcore and the Lakers and it still hit me hard that he was just gone. Let alone one of his daughters and all the others who died in the accident.
